I just started playing again recently. I’ve made it to max level and starting to get some M+ gear so I decided to look in the AH for some enchantments. What happened? The only enchantments i can buy help speed up gathering professions but only in BFA or only work on low level gear. Are professions tailored to only help the player with the profession now? I’ve looked around a little and most people think professions are broken. I really hope this isn’t the case.
That is just the way the game has changed. With the exception of alchemy, professions are more or less a way to keep busy in the game as opposed to make anything useful.
Nowadays there’s not an enchant or tinker for every slot. For enchants you’d be looking at ring and weapons as things that actually boost your toon.
Professions feel pretty hollow in BfA. Raiders can craft up to two pieces of ilvl 415 equipment if their crafting profession makes something they can equip, but outside of that the equipment that can be made is rather underwhelming.
One small thing propping up professions, just barely, are some of the items they produce are used as warfront contributions.
Gathering professions can at least sell reagents for gold. My tailor only makes and sells bags and occasionally battle flags for warfront contributions. Enchanting can at least produce something people can use, but the limited number of slots leaves the impact feeling rather lacking compared to prior expansions.
The new Tools of the Trade additions in patch 8.1.5 have somewhat exacerbated the difference in benefit of alchemy versus various other professions.
