Professions are absolutely painful, over complicated, and poorly designed this expansion. And exacerbated by region wide AH. On my server, very few things have any profit, most are losses, and those that do is only get 3-5 gold. Almost no crafting orders are available unless you bark all day in trade chat, and those that do create orders leave tiny tips. 100g for Elemental Lariat? And Artisan’s Mettle tied to everything, and an added tax for public crafting orders. The old system was boring, but at least it was functional.
And let’s not even get started on the abomination that is Alchemy. Seriously? Experimentation fails, and then gets a 4 hour CD meaning you have no way of leveling it, after 2-3 tries. Nothing you get from it is even profitable, even at rank 3.
I don’t think I have ever been so irritated with any aspect of the game as much as this.

Yep … it could be engaging, if it wasn’t mostly pointless and unaffordable.
Not sure what the vision here was, but its the first time, I am gettign nothing out of doing professions.

Ive had the opposite experience. People asking for crafts. Im regularly filling orders. Im making more gold than ever before.
It feels like a whole side project has been opened up.

The crafting system is excellent. But it’s poorly implemented and thought out, especially with regards to the region wide AH. A lot of the talent paths ppl took turned out to be dead-ends, aka, a complete gold loss. That is dissapointing for ppl when they spec into something, get the final talent, and then – nothing happens. There needs to be clear, visible rewards for achieving a full talent spec.
The main thing I found disappointing in the crafting system is the lack of learnable schematics – there should be way more, at least double, and half of them need to be earned – bind on pickup. Yes, you should have to do a confusing quest, or farm a mob for a long time to get the rare schematic. Otherwise you get what we have right now – complete oversaturation, every one has all the same schematics! There is probably less than 10 schematics total that people have to find, and that is just an insultingly bare minimum for a successful crafting economy.
It was also quite upsetting that we had many people who literally exploited their way to reputation gains, and otherwise, who were basically rewarded for it. It is extremely obvious that the renown reps are time-gated, and as such, if you are lvl 25 valdrakken by week 2 there is something highly suspect going on. It sucks and those players didn’t receive any real punishment except for the poor tailors who didn’t even know they were doing an exploit. Now it’s too late b/c they made millions and they’re good. So, my gripe here is that Blizz failed to actively moderate and participate in the market – it feels like Blizz endorses the free market philosophy

It seems like there are winners and losers in the new system and the gap between them is huge, and the winners are a small minority. Ive been enjoying the system but I definitely see problems with it.

I HATE What WOW Has Done to the professions. Not worth the time nor the effort/time/gold to create anything. Yes, crafted items were not very high level…but one could have fun making them for toons. Low level items should have been left alone–not requiring multiple professions to create an ITEM. Mythic level items, I understand, could have required multiple professional items. Now even cooking requires multiple professions to achieve a simple dish. I have to GOOGLE too much stuff in order to know what to do or go on the Auction House to buy stuff ($6,000-$7,000 gold for a single Bonewrought Crossbow (2) in order to achieve 3 upgrade pts for Leather working. $12-$14k for 3 pts.? The entire system needs a rework.

I actually mostly like how professions are right now, I just wish I could actively work toward improving them rather than sitting and waiting for a Tuesday to get more knowledge.
Timegating is trash.

they are more interesting, but very little is profitable, relying on crafting orders sucks, and if you choose wrong you may not be able to level past ~50. My JC has zero recipes that can level…he’s stuck at 50 for at least another 15 KP…and then hopefully the diamond will let him level.
All of the things that I can craft with a chance at max rank, are losses at max rank
I made my 2 Bonewrought Crossbows and the guy/horse won’t take them. They are a bit costly to be rejected. I dont mind if they cost a little, Im buying progress. But it seems it was a waste.

I understand its an end game system for casual people that dont raid or key and want something to do.
But the issue is for those people who DO key and raid, piling another end game system on top is too much
Im one of those people who made couple hundred million gold. I set up my systems each xpac. i do my keys and raids and enjoy auctioning as relaxing downtime.
I work in Dept of corrections with bad people and sometimes auctioning has been very good to help my sanity.
Sadly this xpac ive had to let professions and auctioning take a back seat. I have not maxed out any of my talent trees on any players and indeed, ive stopped doing the weeklies.
Im basically doing glyphs and some potions and thats it.
Ive had to go to hardcore classic wow to enjoy auctioning again
I didn’t mind the old system. And I get it was very stale. But whomever thought up of this new profession system had WAY too much time on their hands. Give the casual players a path to max the professions and reserve all the gucci things for folks wanting to do hard things. I gave up even trying to level professions this xpack. Much less figure out what the talent trees were. For professions no less. I barely figured out the normal talent trees!

The new system was supposed to be an end game system for casuals to play, or maybe people that didn’t raid or key.
The issue i have is i key to the +21 lvl and have historically done some mythic bosses in raid while using auctioning as a mental relief for the job i do which is dept of corrections.
The problem i find now is i can now longer set my systems up and mindlessly enjoy my auctioning to relax. Indeed, for the first time since cata i have barely engaged with professions and just done glyphs and for the first time in years struggle to make gold
I feel the systems had the right idea but global or region AH etc has killed the the AH

I think it’s a great system. It’s not perfect, but they’ll keep tweaking and improving it.
My biggest issue is the number of important/desired patterns that are extremely rare, and so they’re not worth the asking price that the scalpers list them for (the broken/degenerate AH economy is a separate issue). Rare patterns are fine, but not from unfarmable sources - that’s super annoying.

The profession trees are really really simple (except for enchanting with the random points everywhere). If you want to do better in a craft, you spec into the nodes that have to do with that craft. If you want boots, you spec into boots. If you want decay boots, you spec into decay and boots, if you want chronocloth shoulders, you spec into chronocloth and shoulders, you want to do phials then you spec into phials, etc.
Casuals already can max the profession trees, it’s like 30 minutes of time per week on average.
I’ve about given up all together on engaging with the new crafting system unless I absolutely need to.
Anyone wonder why there is next to zero public orders? Because the entire system is a gotcha.
You want better comissions on public orders? Tell Blizzard to give me a way to add a bonus tip that you only get if you max star/rank my order.
Because otherwise this system is just you using my materials to level up your profession with extra steps, charging me a vague undefined amount of gold to do so, and giving me a substandard product that is basically worthless at the end of the day 50% of the time.
Why would I pay any more than the bare minimum amount that is required by the game logic when there is no clear incentive to do so. The random amount I decide to donate to thte void has zero apparant impact on the quality of my craft, positive or negative. If it does have an impact, there is no indication that it does. I have paid 100g and gotten a max rank, and I have paid 1000g and gotten 1-2 star vendor trash.
I got tired of throwing my gold in the trash on public BOP gem orders only ending up with a 2 star gem after going to the trouble of using all 3 star materials plus providing a generous comission.
As they are currently implemented, I see public work orders as a pointless risk and little more than a gamble with odds not in my favor.
