I differentiate between a cauldron, and the rank 3 being in a raid or PVP patterns, gems, etc. being behind PVP and things like Tools for the Trade. Tools for the Trade rewards, for the most part, have very little benefit inside a raid or dungeon environment and can be used by all. Salvaging a gem, repairing gear, a companion to kill things in the zones are not ‘raid/dungeon’ content by MY definition.
I have my main character, who raids, does dungeons, etc. so for that specific character achieving the profession requirements is relatively easy. I also have my alts, who enjoy professions and have zero business being in a raid or dungeon - as I won’t bring a character that I am not fully proficient to a raid or dungeon out of respect for the other players in LFR/LFG, since I know how frustrating it can be. During Legion, I pushed that envelope a bit, because I needed to get in there to progress my profession. But I have to wonder if that doesn’t contribute to LFR/LFG being more challenging overall if we are ‘gating professions’ behind content.
During Children’s week - how many people who PVP are absolutely frustrated with people who queue simply to get the achievement?
In LFR/LFG how many people are simply there to get the materials/pattern/etc. and add to the frustration of LFR/LFG?
I think the additions were nice but not what I was really hoping for…
Simply put professions need something to sell that people will buy. Most of the professions in bfa do not have anything that people want to buy. The ones that do are mining, herbalism, alchemy, and enchanting. Basically gathering professions, raid mats, and enchanting which does a little of both.
If blizzard really wants to make professions better I would suggest they simply give the professions stuff that people want to buy. They will have to figure it out but maybe if they bump up the boe gear to be in-line with lfr and dish out raid consumables to other professions it would be a good start.
The players that spend the most time and effort on Professions are the players who DO NOT RAID or do max-level dungeons.
I don’t agree with this. People who do raid and do max-level dungeons most certainly put the most time and effort on professions bc they probably spend the most gold and time on re-rolling the craft-able gear to get the best possible stats to min/max and need gold via gather professions for raid consumables.
Its been like that since Vanilla. People spend gold on the best craftable gear and consumables. Or they do it themselves its always been like that. You saying otherwise is just wrong.
Actually you are both somewhat correct. Some raiders do spend the time gathering and making what they need while others simply buy the consumables or others in the guild gather and supply flasks potions and food for the entire raid and that is how it has been since vanilla.
Not all crafters are raiders and not all raiders are crafters.
During BC in my alliance guild we had people in the guild that did not want to raid but they loved running around gathering materials and crafting so much that they ended up filling the guild bank with food, flasks and potions to the point there was no more room in the guild bank.
So blizz should make the entire game around your experience? Perhaps adapting to the way a game is made should be your mentality, it’s how we played games years ago.
I agree, I cannot see or hear well it makes it unfun to raid and am trying to catch up with the SNAFU with Legion and now I have to do the same with BFA. I was hoping for a break. And now the cauldron bug, the economy stinks! Everyone wants to make gold for their subs while NO ONE can afford to buy the basics, PLUS add in the horrendous cost to post anything to sell. What a cockup of grand proportions.
I remember when WoW took pride in the elegance of their work. Now it’s a patchwork. What a monster.
I’m glad to see I’m not the only one. I just re-subbed couple of days ago, and I thought, oooh, new crafting? Cool. UUUUGGGGHHH OMG, seriously, stop forcing us to enter dungeons/raids. This type of game, MMO, you should never force players to enter things they don’t want too. Whether it’s to continue the storyline or crafting, it’s not what I like to do!!!. I paid a lot of gold towards resources just to level them, on all of my toons, and now, I need to enter dungeons to continue? It might be petty to some, but I like to play at my pace and do what I WANT TO DO - stop forcing. So mad!!! The good thing is that I found out right away so I won’t even bother on my alts. Unsub! AGAIN!!!
They also said they wanted the player to “Just equip the gear and forget about it” an “Higher ilvl means its better” or “we dont want players to run to a 3rd party site to see if something is an upgrade” and we all know how well thats worked out in the same 3 expansions…
The Profession breakdown started with Cataclysm. The original concept of the game was based on real life. You needed to work to earn gold. With the gold you bought the necessary items your character needed to play the game. Ex: Hunters needed Bullets/Arrows and needed an engineer to buy from. Vendors did not sell good quality items Crafters could make.
High end recipes and patterns did drop in raids & dungeons, but they could be sold in the Auction House. This eliminated the need for everyone to be a raider. The truth was, not everyone was accepted into a raid party. You had to have your character & skill exceptional to get in one.
Professions were necessary.
Now, however, all the professions contain elements of other professions, require enormous amounts of supplies, and are reduced to a time wasting endeavor. Vendors sell better armor and items than crafters can make.
This game has been in my home since the first release. Professions and questing were my favorite parts. But, now, it has become tedious, time wasting, & easily turned off. Such a pity.
The solution: Blizzard…Buy World of Warcraft back! Put the original Dev team back to work!
well I can see this is a major waste of time. With the start of this expansion { B for A} I had plenty of gold. No fortune but a couple of hundred K. now I am below 20. THERE IS NOT ENOUGH STORM SILVER ORE IN THE GAME TO LEVEL BLACKSMITHING. At the AH a stack of 100 costs roughly 4000.00 to complete two or three projects. which does not even gain new blueprints. thankx blizz. good job. Keep em coming
Yep … Lame … all my professions now are Skinning / Leatherwork and Enchant … Ores make me so depressing , to many trash mobs, low ores nodes to colect and to many BOTS farming around !
It is obvious from browsing through the forums reading player gripes, that the game software writers dont really listen to feedback at all, they may read posts for a laugh, but not to improve game play, to be honest I just think they are oblivious in the sense of that famous saying… Lumberjacks looking for wood but they cant the forest because all the trees are in the way.
The question I wish to ask is, what is the reasoning behind putting elements to complete a profession, which is a concept for an individual, at the back end of the final boss in a dungeon.
As a soloist PVE player this is “ONE” of the most EXTREMELY annoying things in this game because is halts a profession from advancing which is crazy.
I would just like to add that if one of the game writers manages to actually read this far… please reflect on this heinously STUPID idea., and ask themselves what on earth they were thinking about.
With all other strange things arising, I get the feeling there is a new bunch of younger writers, who are just that… software writers rather than the original writers that had some vocational interest in creating WOW.
Gotta do dungeons and PVP to advance professions in BFA. In Legion they just required doing dungeons. I wonder if this will continue on to the next xpac.
It is a massive multi-player online game. You are intended to interact with other players. While there were some issues with requiring dungeons for leveling professions in Legion, all of the dungeon and PvP requirements are largely optional. You don’t need rank 3 patterns to craft a pair of legs for the AH, but if you want the pattern, you need to earn the marks.
