Profession window opening lag

Pretty simple to reproduce, at least on my end. When opening profession window for a specific trade skill, the first time usually goes pretty smoothly. But when opening it subsequent times, it graphically freezes the game for 1-2 seconds while it opens.

Happens to me mostly with Alchemy, and I think cooking. May be specific to having a lot of recipes, I’m not sure. I do know that I never see the issue with Archaeology.

This happens to me frequently. The one thing that work for me is aggressively clearing my cache folder before/after I log each time.

Happening here as well. Works fine the first time then causes the game to freeze up each time afterwards for about 5 seconds even after changing toons. Have to completely log out and back in for it to open normally for that one time then goes right back to freezing game up.

To add: if you open a different profession window without closing the first one, the other one opens right away but when you close it, you will always get about 5 seconds freeze every single time.

I was just coming to report this, as I noticed a lot of people are having the bug.

Here is a bunch of people talking about it on WoW’s Facebook.

Same here. I have WoW and my games running on a SSD and it should NOT freeze. Something else that wasn’t broken that was “fixed”?

The profession window and switching servers both cause the game to lag really bad for me. It’s an issue that blizzard just doesn’t want to admit is wrong with their broken game.

Same lag for me as well. All toons, all professions ive tried. The freeze of the entire game (screen that is) lasts 5 to 10 seconds. I can move the mouse, but everything else is frozen (i just timed it, 6 seconds). If I do not close the profesion window and open another one, it works fine. As long as a profesion window is already open, it works with no lag. If no profesion window is open, there is a 6 second lag everytime.

My system uses two SSD’s. Windows installed on one, WoW on the second (and faster) one. Before this bug, almost everything went very smooth. Zone changes with a load screen, like using heathstone from Outland to Stormwind used to take about 3 seconds. Now zoning in like manner takes 21 seconds. The progress bar takes 7 seconds, and then another 14 seconds after the bar is full before the zone port is finished.

My first thought was my year old SSD’s were having issues. I tested them, and they are running just fine. (pro tip, SpinRite 6.0 can be used on SSD’s. Just use level one scan only as it is a read only test and will test every sector on the drive. Using higher scan levels might burn the drive out).

Have you all tried a full UI reset?
Reset WoW UI

I was having that issue, and I did that. It seemed to work.

Indeed. It worked for me as well. I often get too lazy to go in and do that. Should always be the first thing to do when WoW gets Wonky.

After that, I went back and renamed Interface to ‘new’ and the ‘old’ back to normal and restarted the game. Everything still working normal with the addons back in place, so far.

Well I thought it was just me and was fretting. Glad I found this +1 for something wrong.

Just did that. Didn’t work for me.
