So I just started a new level 10 character and was wondering if it’s worth it to give them a profession?
I already have a full set of up to date heirlooms but are there some BOP crafted items worth getting?
I can’t really see a reason to use a profession while leveling
Mining/herbing can help speed things along since you get XP when you do it. Plus, you can make some decent gold (for being stuff you just grabbed while leveling, at least) off selling the mats on the AH. Your mileage will vary but the worst that happens is you vendor them.

So far in a new leveling NB I have looms for most slots (I lack rings) and whatever fill in greens has been working fine. Even with a heavy sprinkling of dungeon spam. she is hunter…not sure how it fairs for other classes.
whats going to hurt your level 10 is no utility. I was missing lots of my hunters kit. No interrupts suck. Missing rapid fire so I go oof fast. Logged at level 18? but I will be there eventually .
Usually for levelings I dual gather. rocks and flowers. okay xp (used to be better) and money.
My new NB since I made on a new realm I went herb and alchemy. She cant get access to my MG and WRA money since I made her on Illidan.
so she will peddle potions at some point. An experiment to see how being poor in wow is these days.
Interesting so far. So…I can’t jsut buy/alt make her 4 32 bags 2 minutes into the game? I realize how convenient that is now.
professions are junk, there is no point really pointing any money into them because blizzard repeatedly trashes it every time they act like they are going to make it relevant again.

Maybe in the past. Now I think not. It depends on your path. If you plan on questing a lot, sure… some gathering could be nice. For me though, I always end up feeling like it’s distracting from my quest.

If it’s just xp you’re after, get mining and herbalism. Decent xp as you keep hitting the nodes on your way.But don’t go out of your way. Just like pet battle masters if you have a few good ones. Can switch them to something more useful later, but while leveling free xp is good.

I think I should explain a bit more.
Once upon a time there were some pretty powerful weapons that were crafted, these weapons were BOP, sure they required some mats but I have lots of those laying around.
But I am leveling a new character and was thinking
“hey remember those cool weapons that could be crafted for blacksmiths once upon a time”
The only reason (and it’s a very small reason) to get any profession today is that, for some reason, you want to level up the older expansion profession.
But today, when you don’t need the previous levels for, well, anything, it doesn’t make a lot of sense save for being a completionist. Getting mining up to be able to mine Silver in Classic is pretty much not useful.
In the past, you needed old raw materials, and needed to level old expansions to get current.
No longer.
So, choose whatever you like, just know there’s no real practical game value out of doing it.
Melt it, melt it, melt it - Enchanting.
Smelt it, smelt it, dealt it - Mining.

something about why should I have to be this one profession to be viable rants that I recall.
Now some of that was in BFA. Engineers made a nice helm or belt that I recall. But in the post squish that is gone. that was max level stuff and in post squish they squashed alot of this.
There is no point to even hitting 50…farming the best gear heroic 25 can give. it gives no edge and a waste of time. Hit the sl greens ASAP at 50 really.
and if remembering the fun of engineering…fun was detected there too. Its till got wormhole generators for ghetto portals. But even that doesn’t seem to thrill like it used to it seems.
most of the recent allied race alts i made don’t have any professions except fishing and cooking. they had those two because the capital city profession dailies give out decent exp and reputation.
Herbalism is very nice experience while leveling, and herbs are everywhere. Just picking the herbs you pass while questing will increase your leveling speed. I highly recommend herbalism.
