I saw that Bliz was talking about profession catch up. here are some of my ideas.
Darkmoon faire - Have the profession quests give you 10 skill points. (I know, it went from 5 to 3 for Dragon Isles.)
+recipe difficulty reagents could be counted in the consideration on getting skill points. e.g. Explorer’s Plate Chestguard turns gray at 25. using a +30 difficulty you could get skill points all the way to 55. Explorer’s Expert Helm with +30 difficulty would not be gray until 95 skill points. A +35 difficulty would let one get all the way to 100 with this recipe.
Fix shadowlands fishing at Darkmoon faire. As of April 2023 faire, I and the RL friends I tested with that should be able to skill up shadowlands fishing at the faire cannot. And to head off comments, I am 100/100 dragon fishing and 65/100 shadowlands. 30 minutes of fishing should have got me a point in shadowlands skill. On an alt that has shadowlands as their high level, they cannot get points at the faire.

It went from 5 to 2 for primary professions, only secondaries (like Cooking) still get 3. They clearly want to de-emphasise the value of DMF and are not about to reverse course there. And it for all tiers. I have a guy still filling out his Northrend Engineering (which is insanely expensive to complete for no good reason) and it suddenly jumped from ~3 months required to ~8.
That’s not how it works. The 3 points from the monthly quest will drop down to your highest incomplete tier. Open water fishing points do not. It is a “current tier” zone for Fishing, you only get open water fishing points for DF fishing there right now no matter what your situation.
As far as catch-up mechanics go, any idea has to have one significantly hard-to-sell property, which is that it doesn’t also help people in the lead. It is no good giving everybody the same boost, that doesn’t catch anybody up to anything. You have to actively speed up the people behind and/or slow down the people in front.
Obvious ideas would be, very cheap recipes to skill up to cap or at least 75. Easier KP for anybody with less than some threshhold of KP currently.
For several expansions, fishing off the DMF boardwalk would give you points for Vanilla, then for whatever expansion fishing skill was learned but not capped while the quest gave five points to the current expansion, then older ones. Now, they both only give to Dragonflight. There have been several posts asking for DMF island fishing to return to providing points to whatever expansion skill is not capped.
Growing the number of skill, I’d prefer KP over skill, granted by DMF would not affect those in the lead very much because so many of them are already capped on skill and are very high on KP. 10 KP when you only have 100 is a much bigger relative boost than 10 KP when you have 600 even though it is still 10 KP. The only way I see this being a boon to those in the lead is if Blizzard intends to release additional profession skill wheels later in the expansion.
