Profession advice!

So I have a mage who is a tailor/enchanter and a warlock who is also a tailor enchanter. The mage is more skilled at both than the warlock so I’m wanting to replace the warlocks professions. But I honestly have no idea what to replace them with. Advice? And also “why” to go with the advice would be greatly appreciated

Replace them with whatever you find interesting.

As for why, it can be interest, profit, whatever.

My warlock is alchemy/herbalism, but to be honest, it was more that it fit theme-wise with the class. (My mage does tailoring & enchanting, so that alt covers the cloth gear I need.)

Most primary profs are better paired with a gathering prof (I know not everyone does this, but I do.) Dual gathering is also another possibility, like herbing and mining. That way you can just gather and sell mats to AH for a decent profit without putting too much thought or effort into it.

It really depends what you want to do. Do you enjoy gathering? Do you prefer battling mobs? Do you want to craft in town for people? Are you social or are you an introvert?

If you want to battle mobs and make gold go skinning. Join a wolf/bee farm and get gold, mounts, green items to D/E or sell.

If you wanna chill and relax while roaming the world go mining or herbalism.

If you want to make things in town go for blacksmithing or inscription.

If you want to sell crafts on the AH go for alchemy.

I only craft things I can sell in the AH. Alchemy is a great one, because flasks and potions are always in demand. And not only can I craft my own flasks, but I get double duration in my flasks, which saves me money on my own consumable.

Herbalism is the obvious pairing with that. I usually spend off time flying around gathering herbs to pass over to my Alchemist toon. It really depends if you like gathering, though.

One last thing: Maybe you picked enchanting on two characters because you REALLY like enchanting. It’s perfectly fine to keep it that way. You’re still just spending your concentration points on stuff to sell. That’s gold you can use to buy the consumables you don’t have a crafter for, anyway. Fundamentally, all crafting boils down to turning your concentration into value.

I like engineering on a main character if you want a bunch of extra utility. You may want to go farm some previous expansion stuff though for the mail box, jeeves, and things like that. It’s super useful though if you play the character a decent amount.

Most of my characters have engineering to use all the wormhole toys and the loot a rang when things are just out of reach. And Jeeves. The Khaz Algar wormhole generator gets used alot. Mining is a good companion for that, but if you already have a miner and herbalist, alchemy is good choice too.

Engineering. Wormhole alone is worth it, and you can also go back and craft wormholes of previous expansions. You’ll be better at warping around better than a mage on any character.

…Just bring a parachute.

You also can craft various utility items, like repair bots, a battle rez, a mass post-wipe rez, and portable profession tables.

Engineering isn’t cheap: You will have nightmares of Bismuth Bolts, but it is exceedingly useful in so many ways.

I’ve never not been able to make gold with alchemy. It has its ups and downs, but in general there always seems to be a demand. Herbalism is its natural counterpart if you don’t already have one.

The other upside is that it makes a product you will get good use out of personally as well. You’ll go through far more flasks and potions in an expansion than you will enchants.

i like having alch on the toon i actually use. flasks get expensive if you m+ all day, double duration is a must imo.

alchemy and herbs is a good one or was. ive pretty much shelved professions since it’s bad now but can’t go wrong with at least double gather.
:cherries:

Herb/Inscription. Inscription being the second most magically inclined tradeskill after enchanting. And you can make staves for your casters.

Herb/inscription so you can craft cloth gear for your two characters on the mage and staves/OH for your casters on the lock

I have been working on converting an alt to alchemy for this exact reason. The costs are pretty irritating, and my main is enchanting to avoid that cost as well. Working on not having to pay 50k gold every 2 weeks, I don’t want to have to dedicate a whole evening to gold farm to compensate for playing.
