Problem with archaeology

I read about this idea in another thread with a different focus. The problem is having to finish leveling archaeology in BFA zones where archaeology came to die. The old zones have better rewards. Can they remove that leveling restrictions?

Also read this is another thread about features being removed and added back later… well they should add archaeology to shadowlands. An abundance of things to do is not necessarily a bad thing.

Random thought about archaeology over

I never did finish leveling arch in BFA. I got within ten or fifteen points of max level and suddenly the BFA arch zones weren’t giving level ups any longer.

I agree, bring Archeology to Shadowlands!

I’m leveling up Archeology on yet another character, and having great fun going through the old world zones n’ such. However, it does become a bit of a bugger having to transition to newer zones to continue leveling it. It’s not terrible because I still enjoy them as well, but there’s SO much old world areas that it would nice to be able to spread it out more.

Maybe I’m remembering wrong, but I think you may only get them from solving after that. Isn’t it a few points for completing a site up to a certain point?

Ugh, been so long since I touched it though. If only.

I remember doing a full ten BFA zones and solving multiple items and getting zero level points. That’s when I gave up. I think that’s when the devs gave up, too.

Wish I remembered if there was something else to it. May just be like how other professions don’t always give you a point once they turn green.

Arc needs a total rework. It could be fun.

  • Fix the way it’s leveled
  • Add new fun rewards
  • Stop putting digsites in densely packed areas
  • Also stop making sites enormous because it screws with the surveyor sometimes

They could give you a specific currency from it with an archaeology vendor for transmog items, toys, pets, mounts, etc…

They could also make it actually necessary and profitable by adding rare crafting mats that only come from archaeology and can be traded and sold.

Good suggestions, back when BFA was done and we were all waiting for shadowlands and I was satisfied with my progression I picked up archaeology from zero and on. I only realized later after bursting through leveling it that all the cool stuff was in the old zones. I did get the ethereal moose though when it was up.

I still don’t have the upside down ZG two-handed sword or the bug mount, and I’ve done many many many solves for both. Oh, or the recipe for the vial of the sands, though at this point it’s just for collecting.

I bought the vial of sands mount lol, I followed this guide to find the recipe and later realized it wouldn’t drop if I didn’t know alchemy :joy_cat:

Well yeah, that’s why I’ve tortured myself with doing archaeology on multiple alts! I thought “Hey, maybe this character will have better luck!” ah man… that was a good joke, blizz!

Is there any space in shadow lands for dig sites without having to fight respawns constantly?

Arch was best in Cata and MoP. MoP specifically was amazing. Completing finds and then getting a lore scene is something they really should of kept to add to the fluff each expansion.

Imagine if instead of Lorewalker Cho you had Reshad narrate the lore events of Draenor. Drek’thul narrate the Broken Isles. And the turtles narrate Kul Tiras and Zandalar. Could of been amazing.

it’s been many, many years since i’ve touched Arch - probably when it was cool to have in the ZG/ZA instances lol.

leveled this warrior to 60 and plan on maxing it when I’m done with the gear catch up. I kinda miss chillin out and flying around old zones, full of nostalgia, solving things. I admit I didn’t do it much when it was relevant, but it was a great idea.

sad to hear it’s not as rewarding as it once was, but I also definitely look forward to flying old zones again

The archaeology quest in Darkmoon Faire gives 5 skill points. If you’re only 10 or 15 points away from max you only have to do the Faire quest once a month for 2 or 3 months (and it’s really easy–takes maybe 10 minutes).

They could do some really great stuff with shadowlands digs, but I guess they just had too much on their plate to deal with it. Unfortunately, as much as I enjoy it, I doubt we’ll be seeing anymore updates to arch again, the way blizz has been dropping/stealth nerfing side content recently.

A few thoughts…

First, archaeology in Shadowlands would be AMAZING.

Second, why do you need to cap off your skill if you’re already able to do digs everywhere?

Third, you can get skill points from the Darkmoon Faire if you’re struggling to get the last few.

Fourth, I really liked BfA Archaeology. There weren’t as many items or achievements, but the dig sites were reasonably sized, almost all devoid of hostile mobs, and each continent had separate digsites so you could focus either Zandalar or Kul Tiran. Win/win/win.

Archaeology in the afterlife makes no sense, but it makes about as much sense as most of the stuff this expansion.

i would love to see archeology in shadowlands…i’m sure there’s relics and hidden secrets all over the place…it has a lot of history and beings from all over that have come and gone from there…lore-wise it would make sense…

we are overdue for more cosmetics and stuff from archeology too imo

Doesn’t Darkmoon Faire give points for the turn-in (Fun for the Little Ones)

No, and I had a discussion about this with someone shortly after launch and apparently Archeology is something that isn’t known in the Shadowlands cause they’re timeless and only time/change leads to things being covered to then later be re-discovered through archaelogy.

I still wish they’d add it though.
