Private server players

That’s not the full story, no – and it doesn’t really change anything I said.

Evidently I thought I did, but I didn’t?

However, I thought I did and I am.

I actually enjoyed the patch version we were at on Elysium. The game was a touch more difficult it seemed. The old AV with minefields and all the npc will really be missed. Blizzard completely screwed up on AV for Classic.

Do I feel dirty having played pservers? nope. I along with many others have fed WOW thousands of dollars over the years.

Your well being? Wat. Because they didn’t want to support an old version of the game that would have died off in a few years? Bro, even the older Halos don’t have servers for them anymore officially. Kind of stupid bringing up your “well being”.

Blizzard could literally cough.
you - “BLIZZARD BAD!”

I’ve been playing FF14 for the last 2 years… It is the difference of night and day from this game.

FF14 self-polices and has zero tolerance for toxic people. They also don’t have global channel which cultivate toxicity.

Go try FF14, it’s the only game, except maybe LOTRO, where you can find a mature community that gets along. And it’s a pretty damn good game too. I wanna kick myself for not trying it sooner. Boss scripting as good if not better than Wow. Much better graphics. Awesome class design. Stellar crafting… there is a reason why it’s growing like wildfire.

In what world is WoW general chat toxic? Hell, in what world is WoW overall toxic? For a game so large and has so many “elitist” routes you can take, WoW is extremely tame. That goes for classic and retail. Dude, there is more competitiveness and toxicity in a five person CSGO surf server than general chat in WoW.

Are you like in some parallel dimension in some black & white episode of Twilight Zone or something?

Wow. What server is this “utopia” you speak off… like everything I read int his forum, I need to personally fact check it.

I just don’t think you guys have been around true toxicity. Someone trolling in general isn’t toxic. Someone in a high ranked dota, csgo, 3s environment making valid statements bashing your entire existence in the game is toxic. Where you make a single mistake and they harp on it for 20 minutes making you feel like utter trash and you have no response because you know you messed up. Someone in trade going “LEL UR MEM” is tame…

Hell, there isn’t even voice chat…

You chose a game example filled with European players dude. A lot of the F2P games have a large Eastern European player base. Those are miserable people thru and thru to the core due to their failing socialist economies. Most can’t even afford decent enough computers to play cutting edge MMOs.

Which game, dota? CSGO isn’t f2p. Especially at higher ranks or third party clients. It’s just the nature of the game where a teammate’s mistake can set back 10 hours of progress you made, literally. Like, a simple positioning mistake by your mate can screw a week of play.

I have; not interested. Too many game design issues that irritate me.

Oh come on, private servers are a joke.
It’s either a total ghost town. Or the friends of the guy running the server just run around, with the best gear given to them, ganking people.
Or you get a situation where people ‘donate’ to get gear.

Not to mention, no matter how you want to dress it up, whatever BS excuse you have, it’s theft.

I’ve been saying this since the beginning.

There are aspects of vanilla that are fun in their own ways, but all that has been purged from retail. Maybe we can get a few of these things back.

the worst thing about those servers was the lag, the rest didnt bother me

yeah the hosts were breaking laws and treaties, and no i didnt really care. the law isnt gospel to me, and you will be hard pressed to find a law that says its illegal to play on them

even blizzard didnt care that much, they had to legally go after them for copy right reasons though

Are you speaking from experience or repeating rumors? Are those things any better or worse than “streamer privilege,” cheats/exploits etc. in “Classic”?

Not if classified as abandonware.

And you can also play Classic, which exists because of us. You’re welcome.

Fascinating. Thanks to all the superfriends who replied. And the replies run the gamut. In summary of what you all posted, players definitely do not feel guilt for playing on private servers because:

  1. Blizzard abandoned their vanilla IP
  2. Blizzard no longer offered the version of classic that you liked
  3. Blizzard doesn’t care about your well-being so why care about theirs
  4. Blizz doesn’t care about money as evidenced by releasing “Cataclysm”
  5. Blizz developers actually helped to reverse engineer private servers
  6. “I’ve already paid Blizz thousands of dollars”
  7. “The law isn’t gospel to me”

Reflection on the above: Savage

Funny thing is, I never knew private servers existed.
