Linux gamer here, i own a windows pc but it’s a box that sits on a desk in my office and is essentially is a server. i would LOVE to use this (windows) machine as my gaming server for everything, but currently the blizzard EULA is against “Cloud Computing” in any form… even if it’s just me in my house… when my computer is literally in the other room.
I play wow on linux, and for the most part it’s fine but has occasional hiccups because blizzard doesn’t officially support linux (which is reasonable as we aren’t a big market share) my real question is… what is the danger of this particular clause?
from the EULA violations list:
Cloud Computing: Use the Platform, including a Game, in connection with any unauthorized third-party “cloud computing” services, “cloud gaming” services, or any software or service designed to enable the unauthorized streaming or transmission of Game content from a third-party server to any device.
I would set this up on my home network but i do not want to risk being banned for breaking a rule that is not hurting anyone… why is this still a thing in 2020? is there a really good reason for this rule? if not… why is it still there?
It was actually just added recently-ish (like the last year or two).
oh wow, i did not know this… bummer :-\ it’s like the one game i really would like to do this with because i wouldn’t have to fiddle with WINE on my linux machine haha.
Couldn’t you use steam link or if you have Nvidia shield tv and stream to that?
From what i’ve been reading, it seems like programs like steam link and moonlight/nvidia sheild are in violation of the EULA
Off the top of my head, it could be to prevent account sharing. If you’re running it off the cloud, you could have people all over the world logging into the same account but it’d look as though it was all on the same machine.
That’s just a guess though; I haven’t heard anything official on it.
Its not like they would ever know, but now that you posted using your account… haha
Idk why you even ask do you have a wife or something and always ask to leave your own house in your own car? Better to ask forgiveness than permission.
just do it
people were using VMs to multi bot, this “restriction” gives them a reason to ban your account if they suspect you are using an undetectable method to bot.
I hate that actiblizz pulled pit their games from geforce now.
Man, in a few months i wont be able to play wow on my pc, and that sucks
Because the video settings will be too high or you use Linux? Because the Linux thing can be solved … it’s just not as easy as windows
Has there been any update on this stance? Shadow is a pretty great service and performs very well for my needs, so it would really be nice if I wasn’t forced to Rube Goldberg it up just for WoW due to what feels like an arbitrary prohibition… At the very least, is there anyone who can at least give the rationale behind the ban?
