Prince Renathal

This is probably the stupidest thread …

Of course Renathal is a good guy. All the talk about Treachery and Backstabbing, that’s all fun and games to him. It’s the hobby of the Aristocracy to keep themselves from being BORED for eternity. It’s the same reason Maldraxxi fight in a Giant Arena. They do it for fun and to keep in practice.

But their ultimate goal is their service to Revendrath and protection of the Shadowlands.
This is the Reason Renathal was so taken aback from Denathrius’ betrayal and risked everything to take him down.

And if you finished the storyline of the Ventyr, he himself concluded the same thing, which is why he chose to divide the power of the medallions among the court, because the temptation of all that power was something even he could not withstand.

NICE! Great way to look at it.

One way I see it is like the people in Halloweentown, sure they have a wicked sense of humor and their job is doing something not so nice (scaring people) but overall they are pleasant and very affable.

What I’m saying is, Renathal is basically Jack Skellington.

I hated that movie, but essentially, yes.

I agree. I think it’s likely Denathrius has some sort of back-up plan. I’ve even heard theories in that regard involving a certain Light-wielding Nathrezim.

I think Denathrius being stuck in that tower is to contain him. After killing Denathrius in the boss fight, his sword Remornia absorbed his essence and tried to go to the Jailer so he’d be restored. Ren’thal tried to contain them, but he wasn’t strong enough so he enlisted Z’rali’s help.

I think Ren’thal’s lesson might be to teach Denathrius loyalty and to not be arrogant or power-hungry. Revendreth is a purgatory-equivalent afterlife, cleansing souls of their sins so they can learn moral lessons and better themselves before getting a better position.

Ren’thal is trying to redeem Denathrius the Revendreth way. Whether it will work is another question.

Unless you realize they are destroying souls with their ways.

I mean, most Maldraxxie talk about rebirth and the like whenever they croak, so it seems they may have some level of immortality to rely on under certain circumstances. Not saying there isn’t some waist, but at bare minimum it seems like new souls sort of pop out of that flesh ground using the anima of the previous ones. As for Revendreth, conceptually their entire job is to get less than stellar souls to a point where they can either become Venthyr or get sent to another afterlife. Clearly that vision was lost for Denathrius, but that was goal.

I wonder if Denathrius didn’t play game with the Jailer, if Sinfall would have been the first place that the Jailer would have attacked first with Andiun rather than Elysiuan Halls. EDIT: Revendreth is where all the other zones get their anima not Oribos. You would want to cut off supply lines to your enemies.

And what if Denathrius did what he did so that when the jailer does escapes, Revendreth would NOT be touched/targeted. Talk about loyalty to your own people to make a deal with the devil so your people would be saved from complete devastation.

Clearly there has to be some cinematics in 9.1 regarding Denathrius to answer for his “betrayal” of his own people and the other Eternal Ones.

I liken Denathrius to Illidan.

It does make sense for the Jailer to target Revendreth first.

Though you have an interesting theory, there is one problem with the idea of Denathrius working with the Jailer to protect Revendreth.

While misunderstandings are a common trope in fiction, there’s no reason for Denathrius to secretly make a deal with the Jailer when he could’ve just kept his ties with the other Eternal Ones to keep Zovaal in check as they had been doing for eons.

There’s even less reason to keep his own people in the dark about his true motives if keeping them safe was the case (and Denathrius is also egotistically callous with people who defy or fail him - Ember Ward). That would also mean Ren’thal had no reason to rebel - he turned against Denathrius after finding out he’d signed on with Zovaal.

Hmm, I’d say friend. The Prince wanted to carry out their wills & duty to Revendreth once more; additionally being held as a council to make it more difficult for power-manipulation once more. On that note, he also wants to even redeem Sire Denathrius; hence why he ‘humbled’ him in the light of the Naaru.

But his duty is to Revendreth, and Revendreth alone - Whereas some in Revendreth (Such as the Accuser) is more aligned to the wellbeing of the souls, and Revendreth helpful means towards ensuring that they are taken well cared for.

A lot of the Shadowlands realms are like that actually. You have the beings that care moreso about the realm, and others that care moreso about the souls, and the charge they have within that realm to ensure the care is well carried out. Then some that may waver between the two ‘for the greater good’ / ‘long-run’ / ‘the end justifies the means’.
