What do you think they were referring to with this? Was it something that was scrapped? Was it referring to one of the races we see in Dragonflight, to which their connection to trolls haven’t been yet explained? Is it a new thing that will be introduced in one of the coming patches?
I personally think it was referencing Djaradin, as in other fantasy settings I could imagine them being called trolls, but they scrapped that name in favor of Djaradin due to confusion with the trolls we’re familiar with.

Drogbar were originally discussed as proto-trolls, but that thread was dropped before Legion released. I think some folks inside Blizzard still call them that, even though it’s not actually canon, and the reference to them was just a slip of the tongue.

My personal headcanon for troll, djaradin, drogbar, and Trogg origins (mild retcons here and there)

They probably scrapped it when they realized it wasn’t canon.
They pretty much set in stone that trolls were a sentient lifeform created around the shores of the Well of Eternity.
I vaguely recall a hint of another location by Kalimdor that the Titan Forged attempted to enter but believed the race existing there will contuine infighting-- sounds like something Trolls would do.
There does seem to be new space near Kalimdor so maybe we’ll encounter them. Hope there’s some neat masks.
Zandalari trolls are the first civilized troll race. That is still canon.
They are the first trolls period, as far as we know.
I was referencing something that was mentioned in promotional material for Dragonflight.
The Djaradin are strange bunch of Hostile Natives. I’m guessing they ether could be Vrykul that got the Lava powers or just Giant Trolls that Evolved overtime?
More probably Drogbar that Tyr bathed in Titan Water

My personal belief was that the Djaradin were initially intended to be the proto-trolls mentioned when the promotional campaign for Dragonflight began, but this was changed for some unknown reason.
Who knows, maybe the developers have finally lost their appetite for villain-batting troll-adjacent tribes and serving them up as fodder to kill en masse, as we would be with the Djaradin.

I strongly suspect this as well.
It may have been the original plan but then they realized that “So we make this new hostile, warmongering native race and what if they were the first trolls” wasn’t such a good or novel idea as expected.

Pretty much what I had in mind for the family tree. Think I had in mine that Djaradin → Drogbar → Goblin
I like the idea of Trolls being descended from Wild Gods/Loa and Nature itself.
…I still want Primordial Trolls to show up.
