Primal Tide Core Legendary

Hey, quick question. The primal tide core legendary; how does it work exactly?

It’s the one that applies riptide to a second target every 4th cast.

Icy veins sais that it’ll apply it to a random target within 8-10 yards. What if nobody is within that range of the target?

Will it save the proc for when I use it on someone who has someone in range?

Will it cast the second riptide on the target of the first riptide? Will they get both HoTs applied?

Likewise, what about solo play? Will it cast the second spell on myself or does the effect simply not work on single target healing?

I’m tossing up between this one and Earthen Memory. I like the thought of this one, but if it’s super situational, I might go for the Earth Shield buff.

What exactly is the context here? If it’s PvE, particularly raiding, PTC is undisputed #1. It’s hard to really imagine a situation where the extra Riptide wouldn’t find a target. In M+, I’ve started using spiritwalker’s legendary because it’s nice to have another Oh Crap cooldown, but PTC is still very good.

If PvP, PTC is pretty meh, and you’re definitely better off going something like the earth shield lego.

It won’t proc the second in a situation where there are no valid RT targets in range without the HOT.

So, if nobody is in range, or everybody has the RT HOT already, it will use the proc the next time you cast it with a valid target around.

I’m not positive if you start working towards another “charge” of the proc during this period, but the period doesn’t usually last long, so I’m not sure it’s an issue either way.

It will never happen in a raid obviously.

If I’m running a dungeon and people are spread beyond 10 yards. What if I get into a mythic that has 3 ranged dps, myself and a tank. If i use it on the tank and everyone else is 30 years away from him.

How does the spell react in that scenario?

From the sounds of it it just doesn’t do anything making the legendary useless in that particular scenario.

It sounds like the same goes for solo content. If I’m running Torghast, the legendary seems useless and I might be better off going for something else.

Obviously in raids and bg situations it should never be an issue. But the fact that I even thought of the scenario means that it’ll happen at least some of the time.
