Priests have their value & identity diminished, stolen or ridiculed

I often find that priests in WoW tend to have their value as a class, their importance of identity to the greater end of things – To be made a mockery of in the long-run.

Take the orderhall in Legion for example …

  • Priests were fodder for the paladins to save.
  • Heck, we even had a Night Elf Priestess ‘Upgrade’ into becoming a paladin.

‘The Light’

  • Paladins: Paladin lore is oft destructive to priest lore, because they’re often depicted as being an elevated tier of their knowledge to the light in comparison to priests … It’d be nice to have a paladin who ‘upgrades’ into becoming a priest for once. lol
  • Shadowlands: The retcons and ‘lore’ in Shadowlands is abominable just about everywhere, but in priests as well — Given their belief whether its to the loa, Elune, the light or the void appears to have little to no consequence to their afterlife, despite previous story excerpts having shown otherwise … It’d be a welcome retcon to change this, not just for the class identity but for cosmic allegiances too.

‘The Void’

  • Alleria Windrunner: We can’t even get a priest character with a chip of relevance in void-related lore … The character that gets void-relevance? A HUNTER!?!
… It wasn’t bad enough they had to steal every weapon back in the day, so they had to steal class identities too. :sob:
  • The Void Elves: For the Void Elves, I feel their relevance with the lore in void is destructive to other Alliance races as much as it is to Horde … Honestly it feels like everything is shoehorned to them. Any Thalassian elf with void lore HAS to be a void elf, which is rather disheartening to us Blood elf players — however it also strips away for any void-potential for other Alliance race characters to shine.

Other powers, deities & divinities …

As per above, the Shadowlands lore sort of stripped away a lot of aptitude for priest lore in the regard of the spiritual-potential.

It’d be nice if the game could soft-retcon or ‘reveal’ more lore, that what was told in Shadowlands isn’t necessarily the truth & the denizens do not in fact know the full picture.

Giving priests some more lore in the regarded area of divinities could give more prospects outside of the typical ‘Light’ and ‘Void’ – Such as with:

  • Various Loa, some who hold their OWN realms beyond the veil of death
  • Along with Elune or An 'she

It could give some further promise to race-identity & their cultural structures, ambitions and potential new villains & heroes as well.

All of the above:

  • Having actual friendly beings of the darkness & the light (Void Lords / Prime Naaru & Void Gods) – Who aren’t bent on domination, but are typically more wise & seeking comfort within their own embrace would be neat to see — Especially for the aspect of tapping into their power without the lore of “But they’re our enemies!?” biting at our heels.
  • Giving the power to tap into other divine sources of power, like Talanji did with Rezan when fleeing the Alliance would be neat to see as well & could bring forth some cool new customisation features in the future (like a spiritual animal figure in place of the Naaru for ‘Divine Image’ in Holy or ‘Thing from Beyond’ for shadow).

:diamonds: :dracthyr_blob_dance_animated: :diamonds: As per above, having a new ordeal for ‘Shadow’ to utilise from instead of just typically the void, helps restore a semblance of shadow’s former identity of being dark & mysterious magics — Not simply just the powers revolving completely around the void …

  • Aside from Velen, there seems to be few priest characters with high importance – As for Anduin, people seem to be pushing him into the paladin category  which makes me wonder how his bones dealt with the ordeals of such, given I thought they were made fragile after Garrosh broke all his bones … Guess they forgot :person_shrugging:

Anyway, just my little class-rant in terms of relevance & lore in the game — along with hoping these matters to address + ideas help pave the way for further potential to the class in terms of customisations and the diverse RP identities associated with it.

If there’s something you’d like to see come forward with priests in terms of lore / class identity, customisation or overall class-appeal, feel free to post bellow

Well, my days of not taking priests seriously are certainly coming to a middle.

What, you think it’s just a coincidence that most of the night elves wound up in Ardenweald, or something?

u missing the part when they took mana burn away and stripped holy priest in half to have our 2 specs to heal now.

like ull ever take anything serious qt

priests are unevolved Paladins. Evolve to get that capital P.

The way I see it, Void and Fel are the strongest powers in WoW. Paladins can think their puny light makes them strong. But they aren’t fooling me! Warlock and Spriest can’t be beat.

Oh please

Blood elf players have the arcane, fel, nature and light theme. Even the death theme if you count Darkfallen customizations.

Leave something for the rest.

Velen is one of the last remaining characters in the whole setting that consistently gets good writing. I’d rather they have very few well-written priest characters than a whole lot of them that are banal and forgettable.

Paladins are the heroes and priests are the damsels in distress.

Shadow aesthetics and gameplay have been going downhill since Legion.

I mean if they’re nature aligned they get presented to Ardenweald.
— Otherwise, yeah Elune etc hold no sway to whether or not they go to Ardenweald or elsewhere. :person_shrugging:

If such was otherwise, handfuls of Night Elf souls would had arrived in Ardenweald as Elune had hoped they would had – for her sister, instead of the Maw.

 :point_right: Well I’ll give it to ya, you got me there. :joy:

Do you even play the game or are you just trying to look like a clown?

  • Arcane — Everything goes to human potential.
  • Fel —Yeah  because we TOTALLY see fel relevance with the Blood Elves reflected in the storytelling, right? lol
  • Nature — :face_with_raised_eyebrow: … What!?
  • Light — “Leave something for the rest” … bro, there’s literally LIGHTFORGED Draenei in the game, and you feel the Blood Elves having a magic-light fountain is them hogging it?? :joy:

Lets keep it that way
Velen is the true MVP honestly.
 Love his character (personality) design

I liked Anduin back in MoP, but they seem to be guiding him into the melee criteria for awhile now – Many of us were hoping his ‘corruption’ would be with the void, but Shadowlands stole that potential by giving him some Death Knight “DoMiNaTiOn MaGiC” corruption story instead, so that’s probably out of the window as well.

Yep – Essentially how they write it, sadly.

I am still so so salty about the priest class hall story. Why give priests their own story when they can just make them do the paladin one instead? The fact that they didn’t even bother to change the NPC dialog in that scenario they shared with paladins, so that my priest kept getting called “Highlord.”
