Priest tips VS hunters?

Just had the most annoying interlude where I could not quite kill this hunter but he couldn’t kill me either…and he wouldn’t stop trying. I was not in any imminent danger, but could not get away or finish him. I killed his pet several times and brought him to the barest sliver of health but my last tick just couldn’t quite. Note: I’m Discipline, not Shadow.

Anyway, I know the mistake I made, but was wondering if anyone had some general ideas or tips to share.

Cheers

Repeatedly killing his pet is already a victory.

Ignore the pet, kill the hunter. If you’re equal level you’re lucky his damage sucked. A good hunter can usually eat a clothie in a few seconds, and faster if they focus his pet…

I mostly ignored the pet, which I kept off with Psychic Scream. I only focused the pet when the hunter ran away (like, fled) leaving the pet to beat on me – and then he’d come back. I don’t think I landed a single cast-time spell on the hunter, only SW:P and DP. It was almost enough, though. He was three levels lower, but seemed pretty good.

I think keeping you dot up is about the best bet. You could avoid psychic scream (wastes mana) let the pet hit you, and focus on casting a couple mind blasts or smites. Definitely use your wand to annoy him. If he tries to cheetah out, try to daze him. Also, throw grenades at him (level engineering).

Speed potions, rocket boots, jungle remedy (for later levels).

Its one of those fights where if they open at a distance and are good at kiting its going to suck.

Now I am speaking from a Spriest perspective, but if I could get them in mindflay range and keep them there it tilted in my favor. A slow is so handy.

The longer the fight lasts, the more it goes for the Hunter.

This is the only thing I try to achieve whenever I engage a Hunter.

I’ll often just kill the pet, fear them and stroll off.

Scrub hunter to not use viper sting. You should lose to hunters due to being oom. Dwarves can stoneform off the viper sting. You want to try to deadzone him and slowly kill him with your sw:p and damage spells, but it’s hard not being able to deal with viper sting

Rank one

You can deal with it. First aid powerful antivenom from argent dawn rep. Jungle Remedy from STV may also work for higher levels, but it most assuredly works in the 40s.

Hunters can outrange you and kill you, you really can’t beat a hunter who chooses to kite you or disengage. They are one of the top world pvp classes.

Ahh! I forgot I had some in my inventory! Doh! :confounded:

Dont close the distance too well or you will be frozen in a trap. Warch if they keep trying to lead you into the same area, could be baiting that trap.

Yeah I carry 10 jungle remedies at all times to wipe off crippling poison. I don’t think it will work at 60 tho, then it’s up to antivenom pots

The downside is potions have a cooldown and viper sting doesn’t. All hunter has to do is kite and re-apply tho

Thats true. In this case its a time battle for the Priest, but there are ways to play it.

Clear the poison, rocket helm. You may eat the trap but he is stunned.

Its a challenging fight against someone who knows what their doing, but I wouldnt say undoable. Easier for a SPriest than Disc imo though.

Carry Jungle Remedy AT ALL TIMES cause his viper stings can seriously f you up

Focus pet, once their pet is down, their morale is broken. They will be sad that they lost their friend and try to Rez and you just interrupt and focus the poor hunter.

Feel so bad for hunters in pvp

I’m not sure what level you are, but hunters are sort of a tough one for priests. Especially once they get viper sting. You have to do everything in your power to make sure the hunter dies asap. Cleanse concussive shot, get in melee, hit every ability you can to kill him. If you are a level where he has viper sting and he has you at max range, you’re basically dead.
