Priest talents for pvp disscusion. Low use, why?

So im planning out some talent specs for pvp @80 with my disc priest. Im looking through some talents that seem awesome but I never see in online builds taking them and im curious as to why.

Now to clarify one reason im actually looking at them a bit more is my pvp plan @80. My buddy will be playing a more offensive resto druid spec and I will be a offensive disc priest for season 1. Its a wierd comp and in all likelyhood we probably wont get that high of a rating, were just playing what we want to play instead of catering to meta comps.

We figure there will be a lot of double dps teams in season 1 so this might favor us as we can out survive and still do damage. Also these talents have some dependence on the priest being the target which is why they may not be used that often. But I figured if the other team has a choice between a resto druid or a disc priest they would probably mainly target the disc. So maybe these unused talents might serve more importance.

So…with that out of the way im curious about a couple of the priest talents and why they are under used.

  1. Reflective Shield
This talent I feel has massive potential as PWS is used on CD. I used this in Mists(i think it was a glyph) and the dmg output from it was insane.

So is the reason why its not used because in order for this talent to be useful the priest needs to be the main target which isnt always the case. Or is it the absorb amout on PWS is too low so 45% of it in dmg just isnt enough to make it worth 2 talent points?

  1. Blessed Recovery
So this talent sounds great when you read it but it never seems to be taken. A stacking hot on you when being crit.

So is it just not as effective as it reads or does it have a cap on how much it can heal for. Or is it not picked because it is based around you being the target for the match?

Those are the 2 main talents I was wondering about, if anyone has some insight into them that would be awesome. Thank you!

If you aren’t targeting the squishy cloth wearing healer, then they probably aren’t a very good opponent anyways.

Reflective shield doesn’t do enough to be worth the points and Blessed Recovery only works on melee/ranged crits and not spell crits so it’s really only useful vs a few classes.

Well the Druid is going to be far more mobile so you will be the target. Go defensive

Well I mean my current PWS in pre-patch absorbs approx 1400, so 45% is onle about 650 or so. But to have that every 12 seconds adds up. Im not sure yetwhat PWS will absorb at 80 with gear but if I remeber right geared people usually had 20-25k hp. So if PWS absorbed lets say 3k it would be 1400 dmg every 12 seconds before resil modifirers i figure. And even with other dmg reduction we can drop it to about 1.1-1.2k. With the large amount of cc druid/priest have it could add up to making a diffrence to killing a dps. Would it not? I could see it not being useful against a healer dps in 2’s but against double dps it might be worthwhile.

The blessed recovery I could see not being worth 3 points and they could be better spent elsewhere. I also recently had someone tell me they tested it out and each crit only resets the blessed recovery rather than stacks it. Not sure if thats a glitch or working as intended but I could see that being usless then.

Shaman, Hunters, Prot Wars, other Priests can dispell PWS. Reflective shield may not be worth it.

You don’t want your win condition to be around your priest getting dumped on by 2 dps. If they purge the priest’s shield then it’s a wasted 2 points. If they CC the priest and go for the kill on the dps it’s a wasted 2 points. I just think there are better places to spend the points.

That is very true
