Healing with any healing effect now has a 15% chance to make your next heal spell instant cast and cost no mana.
Now heal will actually get used (which was the goal of the set bonus) and it becomes a mana efficient ‘touch up’ heal when you don’t quite need a big heal or when you have to move you can still throw out a little heal.
This also makes it good for holy thanks to lightwell making a lot of instances of healing going out
I thought (if I remember correctly) that when OG Cata was released, they wanted healers to start to use heal and move away from the WoTLK Flash heal.
They “helped” move people away from flash heal by the amount of mana cost of flash heal and mana regen. OG Cata (and thus this version) was to make healers aware of the mana pool by not just having endless mana at their disposal.
The unfortunate part is, dps and tanks forgot this part.
I remember that being the reasoning too. But, in classic, we already know how useless heal actually is, regardless of how cheap it is. It’s way easier to get enough gear and thus, mana pool, to just disregard heal. It’s a shame the 2 pc bonus sucks, but who really cares? You can go 13/13h without any set bonus. Ok, sure, most can’t, and I sure didn’t, but it doesn’t take long for 4pc anyway. 1st tier of an expac usually has crappy bonuses as well.
And now, thanks to the zandalari dungeons, I got 3 pc on a fresh alt in 2 evenings with a raid lined up on Monday which has a good chance of giving me the 4th piece.
I would agree.
When I used to raid on my priest, I used mostly PoM, Pennance, PW: Shield, greater heal but I never rule out a quick renew or heal (if the situation calls for it)
