What ranks do you guys recommend for healing in raids? If I use highest rank, I’ll OOM super fast that’s obvious, especially where “big heals on X” are needed. So I know to down-rank spells, but I don’t know if I’ve been down-ranking to the right level, or there is a way to tell. I can’t find any chart of what is recommended. Since over healing in raids is common with multiple healers, this is really hard to figure out.
So, what are the ranks you more experienced priests use? What would you recommend for my gear level? I’m healing in BWL. My gear is 7/8 T2, priest quest staff, healing cloak, rest of the gear is insignificant.
Currently using max flash for tanks, max - 2 flash for non tanks.
If I have a lot of time to get greater heal off, usually max - 2… kind of rare, since bosses hit fast.
Thank you.
Make a macro where the default is one rank, shift gives another, and alt gives a mana-saving third.
Take a look at Ogzar’s downranking guide. It gives you charts of how much healing each rank does and its efficiency.
I’m around 800 +healing raid buffed in a mix of T2 and AQ40 gear. We’re probably geared similarly because my rings are fail and I can’t get a hat better than T1 to save my life.
- Heal rank 2 for moderate raid damage if I have time to cast. It’s super-efficient.
- Renew 5 on raid and one priest will roll renew 10 on tanks
- Flash heal 4 on raid for quick top-offs and 7 on tanks for emergency heals
- Gheal 2 and 4 on tanks, mostly wind up and only let them land if the pallies haven’t gotten there first
- PoH 2 or 3 in AoE fights depending on damage.
- Max bubble
On Vaelastrasz it’s max PoH and FH to bounce between raid members who don’t have a priest in the party.
ETA: How do you tell? Check overhealing, and with T2 you should be able to use oil and nightfin and not need to pot most fights. I do usually need pots on Nef but only other bosses if things go wrong. If your mana is crashing or you’re overhealing a lot you can rank down. On the other hand, if your downranked heal hits like a noodle or you’re casting a lot but hanging at the bottom of the meters (like the time I accidentally put rank 1 FH on Healbot) it’s too low.

I have a macro for downrank for Fheal max, 5 and 1. If you’re flash healing a lot you’re gonna need to down rank or you’ll go oom pretty fast. On bosses you should be precasting Gheal downranked to 1 or 2 if you’re tank healing
On Vael specifically there are a lot of ways to “cheese” as a priest. You should cast pre-shields on as many people as possible starting 28 seconds or so before combat starts. Then renew as many people as possible for the first 20-30 seconds or so (making sure your priests aren’t overlapping renews.) At that point, pop your Hazzrahs (ZG trinket) if you have it to carry you to the end, throwing out a POH if your group starts to get low. Otherwise just keep throwing out renews and POHing until 10 seconds or so are left at which point you can swap to fheal/poh only.

This is great advice for Vael. I forgot how hard she was before we got her on farm. At this point we blow her up before the tank swap. The bubble/renew strat is great and what we did when it took longer. Thanks for posting that for OP.
I should clarify that I Gheal 4 only when I need to really burst on a tank. It takes a lot of mana. I haven’t even bothered to track down a Gheal 5 book because it takes so much mana.
Thanks guys all great advice.
We do prebubble for Vael, infinite mana so totally different fight.
Firemaw is one we wipe on frequently.
Do you have 8pc of T2?
As horde, honestly on Vael I prefer to spam Gheal with ZHC+Zandalarian Hero Charm and 8pc + Holy Nova. Push back sucks
Normal ranks of heals for me
Rank 1 Gheal
Rank 2, 3 Heal
Rank 4 renew
Rank 4 Flash for spamming, Fheal max rank for “oh noes”
Bubble the melee I know has a death wish
Flash Heal R4 or R5 for raid wide damage that isn’t very much
R7 for emergency
Heal R2 or R4 are good general heals depending on the raid comp
GH R2 or R4 if you are healing the MT on a hard hitting boss
GH R1 if you has 8/8 t2 for healing on sapph if you get that far
I wouldn’t worry about renew. That’s best left to the priest with the most healing power. You can throw it out between pulls to top people off, but usually the priest with the most healing power knows it, and they take advantage of it. Depending on boss kill time, you can just flash heal through it. If your boss kills aren’t super fast, you need to focus on efficiency and minimize overhealing.
