Priest or monk?

From the perspective of a person wanting a heals/DPS class, which would you pick?

Not a big numbers person so looking for the fun angle… mechanics, etc. And also viability in low lvl mythics and random BGs

Which would you pick?

s priest they are the top dps right now.

Monk

totally not biased

Well do you prefer ranged or melee? If you’re looking for complexity in healers, both monk and disc have a little more meat to them, while holy is fairly straightforward. Mechanics-wise, healing monks are considered melee (as are dps, obviously) while priests of all flavors are ranged. I’d pick by that as play styles can change over time but being melee and ranged typically don’t.

Unless you’re a survival hunter.

Monk. To be honest, Shadow priest are a bit boring to me. I’ve just never been able to get into a groove with them.

Ordinary I would say priest because I think they are currently the best healers, but I have been playing my monks lately and I have to admit they are pretty fun.

Only up to 70 on them but I like them so far.

Nice! Less concerned with who tops the charts and more concerned with what is fun. Glad to hear you like the monk!

unless pressed for time…play both playing around a bit. maybe under trial? or slow level some for a day or 2.

I tried priest in shadow. Did not become a loved class/spec.

Monk not tried but will be tried one day. Not scared to try out leather classes lol. Mainly as I have leather loom armour already boosted to 120. More leather I do, the more I get more use out of that investment really.

Out of the two I’d say Monk. WW monk has amazing utility, well actually so does MW. I personally find MW healing to be a tonne of fun and very fluid. This is like my fourth MW over the servers lol.

Haha awesome! That’s good to hear!

monk is considerably easier to play than priest, even at low levels. in terms of healing. so if you’re someone just starting out they’re a good choice. resto druid is also good for beginners. holy is not extremely difficult or anything but disc does require a lot more effort than MW does to do well. MW is also ridiculous in bgs. and priests are not as good imo. shadow though is 3049853409583049584xs more fun to ME than WW is. i am rerolling a new priest. he’s like 95 now. maghar. but my tauren monk is my most recent 120 and it’s been really simple with lower level content like heroics and random bgs.

Eh, I like my Monk. Shadow Priest is fun enough, especially as I prefer ranged classes, but between the two? I think that Monk, from a DPS/Heal standpoint, has more Interesting mechanics and overall utility.

Plus I adore martial arts; who else can say they punched Deathwing in the mouth with their bare hands and Chi?

As someone who mained both through Legion and start of BFA (I also main Healer but play DPS sometimes), I think both classes have mertis but they shine in different areas of the game, based on what the OP says I think Monk is a better fit.

I think the amazing mobility and CC tools that Monks have (Ring of Peace, Paralysis, Leg sweep) makes them more fun for things like dungeons and random BGs, even solo content…

For someone who wants to mostly focus on Raiding then I’d recommend Priest.

I can’t say shadow is exactly exciting but I do enjoy that I can choose between two different healing specs (and playstyles), even if I am terrible at disco.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the insight, especially in regards to my current interests. Monk does seem to be getting the popular vote, but for good reasons!

Both! Those are my two favorite classes

Haha! I’m such an altoholic, gotta pick one and stay with it, at least for the short term:)
