Priest of the Hydra! Which Loa is he calling upon?

Hello beautiful people,

Loa are neat, yes. But you know what Loa isn’t neat? THE ONES WE DO NOT KNOW THE NAME OF! And I present to you, from the Isle of Thunder,

Ok. Now my question has been since stumbling upon him recently, is what Loa? Is it safe to say Gahz’rilla, the Hydra from Zul’Farrak? It isn’t the first time Zandalari and Farraki Loa have crossed, Kimbul for instance. But then I ran into an issue with that theory. The Punishment of Tal’Farrak quest.

In which Yazma states it was the false belief system of the Sandfury that drove them to crime and sends you in to kill the Hydra. Was that just Yazma being a silly bully? Or is it more of a Zandalari view on things?

Love, Malinalxochi

So I’m going to roll in the mammoths into this as I had a bit of a similar question last night while leveling through Borean Tundra.

I think, for current matters, it is safe to say Gahz’rilla would be the hydra Loa as he is considered a demigod. What he reigns over is a completely different question. I imagine something along the lines of wrath and regeneration/life in the context of the Farraki living in the desert with little water and the general personality, or depictions of, hydra.

I wouldn’t think Yazma would lie in this case as they are Jakra’zet’s people and in cahoots and they were probably being dumb.

Going to Mammoths however, Mam’toth was sacrificed by the Drakkari and cannot come back. Khu’nok is a mammoth that can speak to you telepathically, apparently, in the Tundra. It all comes back to, “What is a Loa?” A Loa can be anything, but a Loa that grants you powers may be something entirely different. If enough people were to worship Khu’nok, then perhaps Khu’nok can become the new mammoth Loa similarly to how Kalecgos became the Blue Dragon aspect after Malygos.

Similarly to the Hydra, if the Sandfury were to worship Gahz’ragon then he would surpass Gahz’rilla, his father.

So final answer, Gahz’rilla is probably a Loa

Gahz’rilla was created by the Old Gods and is as much a Loa as G’huun. Any Old God aligned Loa are considered a false belief system by the other Loa.

The Priests of the Hydra were found on the Isle of Thunder which means they were recruited by G’huun’s lackey Zul. Gahz’rilla is said to be the Old Gods’ adored pet which obviously means she was G’huun’s pet which is why Zul recruited her followers.

That means that 2 Wild Gods(Gahz’rilla and the Fetid Devourer) are probably in a frenzy now that their master is dead.

Legend has it that Gahz’rilla was an adored pet of the Old Gods, or even a demigod in her own right. Whatever the truth is, the Sandfury trolls have worshiped this monstrous hydra for thousands of years. Ever wary of the beast’s icy wrath, the trolls will only rouse Gahz’rilla when they have plentiful sacrifices to sate the ravenous creature’s appetite.
