I’m wanting a good caster for classic. Which one would be the overall best for groups/open world?
Really depends on what you want to do. What are your goals/what type of gameplay are you going for OP? Even more specifically, do you have any interest in healing?
Well, probably priest for open world and groups since you can heal.
At this point you need to ask yourself if you’re willing to be a healer AND a dps, if the answer is no, then pick mage/lock
BERSERKER! wait… they don’t have those…? (creates berserker class) BERSERKER!
Mage is one of the top gold farmers in the game. Open world or in groups people always want a mage.
Warlock is a great solo class if that’s your stick. Also great at open world PvP. Somewhat easy to get groups but you may get discriminated against if the group leader is a mage because they don’t want you to roll on their gear.
Priest can be hard to level. Lots of wand. At max you’ll also be expected to heal most times, but thats not to say you can’t roll shadow, you’ll just have to compete with locks and mages for spots.
I enjoy warlock for dots summons and SS.
I plan to pvp though because classic warlock dots are yummy
Well I don’t mind healing but not sure I’d want to be pigeonholed into only healing.
Part of me thinks I wouldn’t mind since I’d always be in demand for groups.
So priest will definitely be the most in demand class of the three but that’ll be because they can heal. You don’t have to be holy to heal, you can and should level shadow (edited).
Warlocks are strong in the world and level well. A little more hands on than a mage because the pet can be as autopilot or micro intensive as you care to play it. (Micro intensive is the correct answer if you really want to excel) They have a lot of spells that work synergistically to give you health and Mana back and are more of an immobile tank caster that rots their enemies down. Healthstones, soulstones, and summons are great group utility and personal wipe prevention while soloing.
Mage is your prototypical wizard caster with decent single target leveling speed, insane AOE capability, decent mobility with blink, and underestimated survivability with ice barrier and ice block. You have the “best” CC in dungeons with sheep. Mages have a number of conveniences with teleport/portals, conjured food and water, AOE farming potential, Mana gems, and evocation. Their gameplay is more straight forward than the warlock in that their spells are mostly casted impact spells or instant impact spells. Frost slows are great for leveling and PvP, while fire is the go-to raiding spec after BWL.
None are objectively better overall (unless you’re okay with healing)…but they are better at individual roles.
Priest because we need more healers.
You can’t walk more than 2 feet without running into a mage or warlock.
Hmm, not sure how I feel about this subject…
Well, this may be a personal preference, but I’d go with Warlock
Rain fire from the skies, drain the very life from your enemies, curse them and cause them to flee in fear, summon awesome demons for any kind of situation…
Or you could just cast Heal and Frostbolt, if you really want, but it sounds a bit less cool
BDK is good for open world.
Mage most fun but hwy only one Im rolling a UD priest and a Human mage :).
Im enjoying priest so far, good survivability and easy to get in groups. Plus its fun to heal random people struggling with a mob
No dont level holy unless you want to start HATING the class. Level shadow then switch at 60.
BDK? <10 char>
Sorry… holy hell. Haven’t had my coffee. I definitely meant Shadow. I’ll edit it.
All three are great. Just go down this quick list to find your class.
Do you want to be able to heal?
YES -> Play Priest.
NO -> Do you want a pet?
YES -> Play Warlock
NO -> Play Mage
You’re welcome.
Play what you like. Leveling as a priest will probably be the worst experience of the three though, in my opinion.
The mage will allow to farm for gold the fastest, while the warlock will let you solo some content with its pet you wouldn’t ordinarily be able to otherwise.
i dont know how it will be down the road, but right now mages are in much higher demand than priests.
