Prey System

I know I’ve been posting a lot but I’m actually enjoying this exspansion. I really like the prey system I’ve only done to normal level hunts but it’s pretty fun so far and rewards decent gear.

They become a lot less exciting when you realize they’re just an extra step to add an extremely minor modifier to what you’re already doing anyway (world quests and weekly events)

Boring, but inoffensive at least. They could have excluded world quests from contributing…

I did all the hard mode its not hard at all, people will only do it for a few weeks for gear, than its gonna be dead

The system isn’t bad but I don’t see how it’ll last. I haven’t tried one of the hardmode hunts yet, only just unlocked it, but since I got some Adventurer stuff from the normal hunts, I assume those will provide at most Veteran loot or crests. Maybe they should have higher tiers and add it to Delves. Bonus crests (perhaps even lower ones) while I’m Delving? Yes please. I noticed it’s also not linked to the Singularity/Stormarion whatever event, it should be kicking in during stuff like that too.

I wish it was a toggled mode similar to War Mode where you come across a random scene of something gone wrong, and the more you investigate, the more your prey retaliates, until you eventually find them.

Having to go back to Edgy McWonderRed every time just ruins the whole thing.

Emphasis on random encounters, and toggled mode.

Edit: I’d almost add it as another profession system. As you increase your level, you’re able to find your prey easier, able to specialize in hunting specific prey, and able to survive easier during the hunt, further enabling you to hunt stronger prey.

its Cool. the anxiety injection is epic

till you unlock nightmare diff and if i recall its tied to the vaults also so might be another way to get it filled up over the delves

Well i can already get hero vault from delves, unless they put mythic gear there im not doing it

They’ve set the difficulty of normal and hard at a level that isn’t scaring me off like I was expecting it would.

It is a little upside down (but in a good way for me), in that I’m not actually doing any hunting of the prey, it’s just a layer on top of whatever world content I was going to be doing anyway. Basically, I pick up the hunt then just come with an excuse to stay in the zone (events, questing, harvesting, I’ve even done a whole hunt doing nothing but fishing)

They should have the target send minions when you’re out in the world instead of the actual quarry. By the time you hunt them down you’ve seen them a half-a-dozen times and they feel like a joke by then. Very anticlimactic.

I’m still a bit confused who is prey, is it me or them? Or it’s supposed be both of us I guess. Just weird.

As a BM Hunter, the only hard thing about this is the fact that the initial Hunt forces the Prey to hard focus me. The actual boss fight is easy peasy.

For the hunt, I just have to use my self defense, maybe pop an Exhilaration if I was already low.

Yeah, that initial “come on pet, growl … take aggro … please take aggro?” window can be a bit scary for a hunter. We’ve gotten a bit squishy at times.

I can say I am using MD a lot more than I used to. This is the first time in a long time that ive actually gone in and done things at the start of an xpac, without having easy access to catch up gear in a later season.

Considering the bosses don’t get more interesting on Hard mode from leveling/normal, I don’t expect much change in nightmare. You already have Prey “bosses” with a single spell and autoattack.
