Toons who do not do the “Prey” thing in game, frequently get attacked by the prey mobs when questing. The prey mobs attack the intended person, but if you happen to be questing in close proximity, then you get attacked, or perhaps they were misdirected.
Why are they attacking people not intending to do Prey?
Aggro, just like any other mob. If you ding them with AoE or accidentally target them with a direct attack, they attack you if you out-aggro their original target. Since almost every class’s rotation includes AoE or cleave attacks, it’s easy to become a prey summon’s new best friend, especially if the player on the prey hunt doesn’t gather them up and deal with them themselves.
A class with a combat drop or threat reduction can be nice in this situation, but if someone on a hunt chooses to leave the problem to everyone else there isn’t much you can do other than survive.
