Prevoker. What am I doing wrong for DPS?

Please help. Guys I feel like my damage has consistently been crap. I can heal like an angel, but want to pump damage out when I can in keys. I’m ilvl 420. My stats rn are
Mastery: 36%
Haste: 21%
Crit: 15%
Verse: 8%

You can check me out on armory-US/moon Guard/ Evoketiger

Keep in mind this toon is only about a month old but is now my main.

For dps in keys I generally use fire breath on CD (can’t decide if I should fully charge it or not thought depends on if I need add heals), deep breath on CD when I’m not about to rando pull, living flame on single target and azure strike or Aoe, and lastly disintigrate when I need mana.

Thoughts? Is it simply stats? Thanks friends.

You should be prioritizing mastery. It should be more than 60%.

Single target is disintegrate and only use living flame on proc. See WoWhead for the best dungeon build that supports this.

You should only use Deep Breath on large packs and not on C/D. Instead, spamming pyre is your best aoe. Again, the WoWhead build supports this.

You should also be using eternity surge for both single target and aoe.

Use Tip the scales for a strong fire breath but otherwise use level one to keep the dot up while spamming pyre to make your breath C/D shorter.

Read the title of the thread again, and then read what you wrote…then apologize to the op.

Just put on a r1 breath then living flame, azure strike.

Your damage will never be good but that’s the best you can do.

Breath r1
Living flame, azure strike - repeat

I should add, some healers take dps trinkets so their dps is a little higher.

Never be as good as a DPS’ers, but you can do better then that come on.

I think every one of the previous posters has given not that great of advice and they probably are in the same boat as you based on what they’re saying, honestly.

For m+ you want to be prioritizing crit/haste/and some versatility. Last season I had about 25% crit, 22% haste,11% vers, I can’t remember my mastery % since it was pretty much last in terms of stat prio for m+.

You should only use firebreath rank 1 when pure single target, otherwise, you want to charge up FB how many ranks depending on how many targets you’re righting because it will allow living flame to hit that many targets as well. I.E., 3 targets, charge up FB to r3, then cast living flame and it will hit all 3 targets as well.
Obviously you want to try and use your free essence procs on disintegrate.

Never use azure strike unless you’re moving and have nothing else you can cast. It doesnt do good damage and you want to be casting LF to try and get free essence procs for more disintegrates. This also can be translated to more heals if necessary.

All in all, clean up your rotation a bit as far as what abilities should be prioritized and what FB empowerment level should be cast and clean up your stat allocation. Prioritizing mastery over the rest is more for raid. It’s good in m+ as well of course but you will obviously lose damage).

This is actually false and suboptimal. Which Fire Breath empowerment is based on how many targets there are since it will cause your living flame to cleave to that many targets=empowerment level. You also never want to cast azure strike unless you’re moving and have nothing else. It does terrible damage and you’d rather cast LF to try and get free essence procs for disintegrate or even heals.

I missed the part where OP was talking about keys, I only did a handful of them last season so wouldn’t have a clue about it. Lol

Ohhh, I’m preservation. I don’t think we have pyre. O.O but this is super helpful for when I swap to dps.

You want mastery if you are prioritizing healing. For dps, go with crit/haste.

I’d take Font of Magic (max empower increased by 1) over Ouroboros.

Deep Breath on aoe pulls, always max out your Fire Breath (bigger damage equals bigger heals from Life-Giver’s Flame/Leaping Flames, which in turn allows you to keep pumping dps). Pump Living Flame into the crowd – my Living Flame crits hit in a range of 60k-100k+, which is more damage than Azure Strike, plus I want Essence Burst stacks when it’s time to triage. Only Disintegrate if you’re desperate for mana or finishing off low health enemies.

Another thing that would really bump your damage up is dps trinkets. For example, from last season, I have Voidmender’s Shadowgem (2k crit on-use every 1min 30sec) macro’d to Fire Breath, and Conjured Chillglobe (instant 60k/120k every 1min) macro’d to Living Flame. The dracthyr staff from last season is 277.5k dmg every 3 mins. These are low ilvl now (411) but I still get my higher ilvl friends feeling competitive when I’m out dpsing them.

You can use the gear guide add-on “Ask Mr. Robot” for ideas on what gear/stats would be better for dps as well. Importing the string from the add-on into their website, you can set it to find gear that’s specifically better for dps rather than healing, or a mixture of both. Last season it helped me put together a crit/haste set for lower keys/solo stuff, and a mastery set for pushing keys/raiding.

With the buffs to player health and enemy damage, healing overall is tougher than usual right now so don’t worry if your damage is still low. Once you have good gear it will be easier.

I was nearly 3k IO last season, this season since I thought I’d try I already hit over 2500 IO.

My honest opinion, focus Crit/Haste, I do have a little mastery, I don’t run the usual talents but I like to play what feels better for me.

As a healer and this is most important regardless how good and geared you are your dps is going to be reflected by how good your team is.

If they taking ridiculous unnecessary damage, standing in stuff, playing poorly, a lot of your GCDs will be used to heal rather then dpsing, this issue is very noticeable when PuGing.

If your team requires more healing your overall dps will suffer, no matter how amazing or geared you are. Personally dps is last thing on my mind when running keys, you do it when you can and have the time too.

I strictly PuG my keys, when in a solid group that knows how to play my overall dps can be 30k+ easy, no hassle, when I have a group that kills my life and constantly needs me to heal it can be as low as 10-15k, it all really depends how good your group is.
