Preventing DDOS

Preventing DDOS isn’t hard, do they just not want to foot the bill for extra security?

Please do explain, with your personal expertise, how it is easy, what blizzard is or isn’t doing, and what steps need to be taken to prevent a ddos attack.

Provide specifics for each point. It’s “easy” so you should be able to inform us all.

Technology is something that evolves a lot. As technology appears to prevent attacks those who DDOS online services create new software and technology to get around the new security. It’s a war of attrition. It’s not ‘easy’ it’s not ‘simple’. It’s something that is going to continue till a solution is invented that somehow prevents this and those who do it are unable to innovate a way around the new security. Till that day comes, the war continues.

My entite career is web and cyber security. Literally every cloud and data platform offers ways to mitigate it for a tad extra and often for free. They get DDOS’d more than any server I’ve seen, something is wrong with how they’re securing it. Either not to scale or they didn’t hire an external team to do it.

Then you SHOULD know that there is no such thing as 100% ddos free protection.

You can have services to migrate it but never be able to prevent it. anyone saying they have said 100% protection are lying or hyping a under whelming product.

Either you’re pretending to be in cyber security or your services are actually bottom tier companies that have little to probably no interaction on your websites

Yes there is no 100% guarantee. But Blizzard gets hit multiple times monthly to the point it brings servers down, what other server/application can you name where it happens that often? Something is wrong with how they mitigate it.

Most of the WoW servers would likely be ran from a barebones approach.

As their money goes elsewhere…to make more money.

By all means, how would you do it? What is your opinion on players putting routers into DMZ Mode, I wonder?

Mitigate - yeah … ok.

Which is it?

Yes, Mitigate, make less severe.

I’d start with stop taking steaming piles of :poop: on your customers. Might just be me, but the dumpster fire that is customer service, lack of tuning, and DF being abandoned for SoD/WW might have something to do with it.

He has a point though? Name another game that gets DDOS attacks on a scale like WoW…it doesn’t happen. Whenever theres lag…DDOS attack, server disconnects…DDOS attacks, cant log in…DDOS attacks. It’s getting quite repetitive to where it’s almost not believable.
