Pretty much got carried through Normal SoD: my Spec is a joke in group content

Nope, not this guy. My main Ret Paladin is Ilvl 268, and I was at the bottom of the meters behind the Tanks. That’s 2 Legendaries, and 4 Piece Bonus, 278 Conduits, and my DPS was still garbage!

Yes, there were other classes at or around my Ilvl like Hunters and Warlocks who were (wait for it) topping the meters. Now admittedly, a good chunk of the problem was mechanics where Melee gets targeted by Bombs and has to run out, or the boss drops bad on the ground and we have to run out of it, or hide behind shields while the Tank pulls the Boss up (Guardian). Mechanics that require Melee to stop DPS and run away, combined with Ret being a meme, = I feel like crap that Im not contributing to the raid and are getting carried!!

This isn’t a "Git Good’ or “Your Gear Sucks”. This is a case of my Spec being a Meme because Blizzard has no spine to the PVP cry babies! Every single time Ret gets to an OK spot on the meters, the cry baby PVP’ERS come out crying that Ret is too good and Blizzard being the spinless idiots that they are, nerfs Ret back to a meme spec.

I for one, am tired of crappy mechanics that screw over Melee, and Blizzard catering to the useless PVP crowd!! Stop Balancing PVE around PVP!! Why the heck haven’t Hunter’s and Locks been nerfed useless also?? Divine Shield. Paladins small immunity Bubble needs to go. If that immunity wasn’t there, then maybe we could go from being a meme spec again!

That’s PVP’s whole complaint that Blizzard seems to agree with.“They can’t do good burst and have an immunity, it isn’t fair!!!” Idiots. Fine, take the darn bubble! It’s more than a fair trade off to get back to not being a meme spec!! I’m tired of feeling useless in Raid Content! Hell, I already hate raiding and only did it for Slimecat (Sepulcher next week and Ill be done, finally), but for the sake of our spec, please get rid of the darn bubble and BUFF OUR SPEC!!!

Melee mechanics aren’t that bad.
PvP and PvE are balanced separately now, in terms of numbers.
Bubble is fine… It’s not even amazing in PvP because it can be mass dispelled.

Ret can kill people in 3 GCDs while disarmed in PvP, while having bubble. I don’t think Blizzard has some rule against immunities and burst damage being on the same class. Look at fire mage too.

If all of that’s true, and let’s assume you’re 100% right, why is Ret still such a meme spec? What is it that Blizzard is holding against, causing us to suck so badly?

Situational. Gear disparity easily accounts for stuff like that. Of course anyone in good gear is going to blow up a non geared character.

I just went and had a quick peek at warcraftlogs and ret paladins are in the top half of the DPS for all 3 raids in this season. Maybe the problem isn’t the spec.

I’m a Ret main and tbh I do ok in normal heroics pugging - I try to min max to optimize so I think we aren’t in to bad a spot

I went through Heroic SoD with my gear taken off. Is it a skill issue?

everyone knows ret has problems thats why you hardly see none when you do group content . any key i do do its always full of warlocks and hunters sometimes a strange shaman in the mix but ret you rarely run into one.

Hmm.

All I’ve got to say to this is I’ve been properly smacked by rets in raids across multiple specs that I’ve ran through the raids. I would try fine tuning some things and just taking a good look at rotations, stats, trinkets etc.

Umm, WCL shows Ret at upper middle pack for Fated SoD so maybe their is more to your issue than the spec itself?

And for overall the disparity isn’t even that wide (for WoW standards)

Ret is fine in keys, people aren’t looking for specs that are fine.

i know there okay to do stuff but they must be so crap to play no one wants to at all hardly when you can play prot pally .

I don’t know what your main is so I can’t help you. Are they missing all their enchants and gems like this guy? Did you use all consumables?

I only main and have only ever done Ret since vanilla. Rets are by no means a or s tier. But I’ve seen enough rets in raid and mythic plus who are good in thier class and gear that can pump and do well. Like any class it’s practice, rotation and optimized gear.

Hang in there, ret is solid mid tier :slight_smile:

And yes for dungeons I just bring a surv hunter and warlock to cover off our deficiencies. Have faith next expansion we are getting a brez!!!
