So I am returning to wow after years. I have high leveled characters and have some progression on them from previous expansions. However I do not remember how to play the classes and with all the changes lately it would be nice to go through the learning process again. But do not want to start a new character and loose the progression with rep etc
Can I suggest you add a prestige system of sort for returning players or even current players.
Prestige back to level one and work your way back up to max without loosing any progression you have.
Could offer different leveling modes and rewards but mostly for returning players that want to get back into the groove of playing their class.

what’s wrong with just levelling a character to max, then learning how to play the class better as a max level (with all the talents) through easier modes like normal dungeons, world quests and working your way up as you get a better handle on it?
Perhaps you could try making one of those “class trial” characters to learn with?
Or just roll a new one if you want to start over.

There is nothing wrong with it. It’s just a little overwhelming I guess to return to all the changes. I wouldn’t mind starting back at lvl 1 as it doesn’t take that long to level and would slowly introduce me back into skills / talents that have been changed or added. Not to mention I would be able to go back to expansions that I had missed and experience that as well.
I suppose I could just start a new toon same class and return to original character once I reach the same level lol
Project Ascension ( Private Server ) has a prestige mode and it’s quite fun with all the different modes, just thought it could be an “option” for returning players instead of doing what either you or I said.
Not to mention the rewards and etc. you could attach to it for players that are max level and just want to mess around leveling again if they’re bored or to help/play with a friend.
that would be interesting… getting rewards for levelling up the same class again.

Here’s what I would do-- Reroll. But keep the character you have the most progress on. When you feel like you’ve relearned the class, switch back to the older character.

What’s wrong is that new players often come back and their class is now literally garbage because of blizz class designs. Sometimes they don’t even play the same way anymore. For a game thats lost so many players blizz really doesn’t do a good job of offering a streamlined return. Sure there’s catchup gear every expansion but that’s really for people who stopped playing like season 1 and came back end of expansion.
