hey so I think it would be pretty awesome if each class in the game could choose between 2 or 3 new ‘prestige’ classes.
so for example, as a warrior, you could be arms, fury, or prot
but then on top of that choice, you could also choose to be a blademaster, or a spellbreaker
this would be a great feature for an upcoming expansion. every class would get new ‘sub specializations’ that allows them to further define their character, gain power and access to iconic spells/abilities. maybe some cosmetic rewards as well. and it would be great for fantasy/role playing purposes to be able to finally say “yes, I AM a blademaster” (as opposed to just being a warrior).

I’m all for more customization.
But the current balance team already has like 50 specs to tune with everyone wanting to be able to do competitive damage in healing. I love the idea but at what point are we approaching “bloat”
What you’re describing is how I think capstone talents should be, have a more active role in changing your gameplay style. Some specs already feel this way for that reason.

It’s not that terrible an idea, I just dont know if they could manage to balance what would effectively be an extra spec for classes that they already have difficulty with.
The capstone talents sounds like a great idea to me.
Definate no on creating more classes and specs. I may be putting a few weak clues together, but there’s sorta a pattern to posts on GD. Nerf her, buff me. Please don’t add anything, Blizzard, we can’t balance in a simple zero sum relationship between two classes.
The PvP guys will never shut up about it.

Those are called specializations.
I think “prestige” classes would be a bad thing, because they don’t sound like they would be very different from specializations, and because there will always be a “correct” choice of prestige class that you would be expected to play for certain types of content.
Would be cool from an RP perspective.
Probably very hard to balance from a gameplay perspective. Especially considering all the specs that need to be balanced now.
This is a super cool idea. But blizzard currently can’t even balance the specs they have, adding more would just be a nightmare for them.
I like the idea of making the capstones be what changes up your spec.
so a new expansion arrives, and we get 10 more levels, 10 more talent points, and a new row, or rows, of talents. and those are connected to our existing talent trees. keeping things balanced is always a concern.

a new expansion arrives, and we get 10 more levels, 10 more talent points, and a new row, or rows, of talents. but these are not connected to our existing trees. they are tucked away in 3 new separate trees. wouldn’t they be slightly easier to balance, since they aren’t connected to existing talent trees?
simply giving the player a new row of talents I don’t feel is the right move to accomplish the goal I want to accomplish which is to allow the player to make a choice. Even if during that expansion a player only has enough points to choose 1 capstone talent, what happens 2 expansions from now, or 5 expansions from now, when they will have enough talent points to unlock all of the capstones?
maybe you think it would be fun to have a hunter that is a warden, a dark ranger, and a ranger general all at the same time, but I would rather force the player to make a choice there.
