"Press Enter to Continue" Chat Box Weirdness

Short version - I have two addons that do things with the chat box automatically. One is to announce interrupts. The other is Emote Splitter which is good for RP realms where you can a para post during things like events and such.

Ever since 8.2.5, both of these addons have stopped working properly and now I’m prompted with “Press Enter to Continue”. It’s incredibly annoying that I cannot communicate my kicks with my fellow group members or arena mates when not in voice with them, and it’s incredibly annoying that my social interactions on RP realms have become oddly janky and annoying.

Any information on this? Is it a bug or did Blizz try to break these addons? If Blizzard broke these addons because of automated chat dialogue, that’s fine. But I’d like to know for the principle of things.

Have you asked if the maintainers or users of those addons have seen the same effect? That’s a better way to gauge whether your case is isolated or not.

I doubt anyone here (including potential Blizzard posters) would know about undocumented addon API changes, since the developers don’t come here. This forum is more for “I can’t run the program” types of support.

A better place to ask your question in the WoW forum environment would be the UI and Macros forum.

Yes, both addon creators have come out and said that something in 8.2.5 has messed with the config of both addons. Emote Splitter’s author specifically stated that unless Blizzard reverses whatever they did in 8.2.5, it’s going to be very difficult to fix.

Edit: Here’s the link to Emote Splitter’s author’s comment. `https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/emote-splitter

It’s why I’m asking if these addons were intentionally busted. It would make sense considering the other addons involving announcing when rares were up were also busted, but things like Announce Interrupts and Emote Splitter are both never in general channels and never do anything other than notify someone of something or make para posting easier. It’s why I’m asking in the tech support area because if this is a technical intention to break these addons due to automated chat dialogue occurring, that would make sense. But I’d rather have a Blue confirm it.

I hope a Blue does answer, but AFAIK the blue posters here wouldn’t have any specific insight into undocumented Lua API changes. And I don’t remember if the blues in general are in the habit of confirming undocumented changes.

Just reporting in to say that Speakinspell is broken for me too. What a nightmare. This is a massive immersion thing for me.

I’m fairly sure that this was done deliberately to break automated chat messaging in /say. Announce Interrupts wound up releasing an update where in the open world, it does a private message indicating that you had interrupted something properly, but then works fine in instanced content.

The likelihood behind this was because of all the nonsense surrounding the open world rares and such on Mechagon where people were using addons to automate messages going out to people. So I think the point behind it was to make it so open world automated messaging would no longer work. The creator of Emote Splitter also made a comment about how something in the config files made it so emote splitter would no longer work with /say in the open world.

Absolutely not worth it. I get that Blizzard has a thing against world content being made too efficient, but this is a massive dent to my enjoyment of the game.
