Hi there. I have really bad hands and it is difficult for me to play because I am in a lot of pain. When I tick the “Press and hold casting”, it still does not work. I am curious if it is because of some sort of addon issue? I use elvui and bartender if that is significant. I think that this feature would be very helpful for me. Sorry if this isn’t the right place for this, I just really want to be able to play without being in so much pain =)

i think press and hold casting also messes up area target spells like hunter traps but i’m not sure about it, i had an issue with it on that the trap would go off immediately where my mouse cursor was instead of showing the targeting reticule, maybe that only happens if you hold the button down a little bit longer than usual. anyway i hope they get the feature working without bugs eventually.

Yeah for me it just. Isn’t working at all. I hold the button down and nothing happens 
I’ve tried /console ActionButtonUseKeyDown 1 . Someone on the forum suggested that. But no luck. I really do want to be able to play with less pain.

If you’re using any addons that replace actionbars, yes, that’s causing it. For whatever reason Blizzard has prevented any addons from doing hold to cast (And believe this also extends to empowered spells).

That is an inconsistent in combat thing. Any target circle ability cast outside of combat will let you choose your target before unleashing it, but when you’re in combat it can auto-fire at where your mouse cursor is pointing. There’s no way to turn it off and it doesn’t always trigger. You just have to get used to target circle spells activating immediately where your mouse cursor is currently pointing and sometimes while in combat it changes back to letting you pick where to drop it.

When they first announced press and hold, I wanted to use it with the GSE add-on but then Blizzard said NO!

Who knows, now I might finally be able to play frost mage thanks to press and hold making things not spammy.
If this is the case I foresee a lot of complaints coming in 3 weeks when Evokers unlock.
Yup.
And not sure if anyone knows if this is an intended limitation or if its just something broken. In an ideal world we’d have some form of communication from Blizzard, but well… yeah.

I can confirm it is not working properly. It works for the first few spells and then will stop by itself. Confirmed on a frost mage casting frost bolt.
Not surprised though. Some of the talents in the mage tree don’t even work. I’m looking at you, displacement.

This seems to be very non-conducive to facilitating users who need the setting. The default WoW UI has been extremely outdated for a long time, and I doubt that after all these years many players will want to switch from ElvUI or other alternatives to the blizzard default just for this setting. Is there no world where we can have this be supported for add-ons? This setting is huge for players like myself that live in constant hand pain and want to continue to be able to play the game despite health challenges.
@Stabbymcstabby - I would think that this being fixed would be ideal also, but even for skills that are not macro’d I still am continuing to have difficulties. The user I replied to in the thread commented that apparently any action bar add-ons make it not work-- surely blizzard understands at this point that a very large portion of the player base does not use the default UI nor want to switch to it?

As of this very moment? Nope, only solution is to use default action bars.
As to why or if Blizzard plans to allow addons to do it, well only Blizzard knowns that but if they continue as it is than if you hope to play an evoker best to get familiar with the new UI.
I really hope so, but then again blizzard might say it is an skill issue or something.
Fingers of frost seems to be the chief offender for press and hold casting to stop on a frost mage. I’ve been messing around with press and hold a lot on my frost mage, and on some other classes. Even with default action bars and no macro’s this setting is still not working working for me. Feels bad.
Yep. Same here. I’ve gone full default with my UI and even with the different variables of the ActionButtonUseKeyDown command, it just doesn’t work. I’ve tried mouseover mode off. I’ve tried damage spells. I’ve tried healing spells. The option just doesn’t seem to actually do anything.
doesn’t seem to work at all for me either, and i disabled all addons, still doesn’t work.
Not a big deal for me, but it thought it would be nice
with my shaman in AOE pulls for chain lightning
