My shaman can wear shields but the “Dalaran Defender’s Aegis” is bugged saying that shields are not my armor type and will not learn the transmog, when I clearly can equip it.
Also “Armor Skills” passive clearly says can use shields. A clear bug with this item.
Edit: This same error came up for my paladin…in prot spec…

Yet once you buy it, you don’t unlock the appearance because “this item is not your preferred armor type.” Ran into this exact same issue on my prot warrior, who would find it rather awkward to cast Shield Slam without a shield.
Edit: This seems to happen to any gear that is purchased from a vendor. The same thing just happened with the Dalaran Defender’s Spaulders, also on the warrior. I didn’t get the error message that it isn’t my preferred armor type, but purchasing and equipping did not unlock the appearance. The rest of the set that I have unlocked have come from drops.
Edit 2: Disregard the above. There was never any indication that the purchased gear unlocked the appearance, but it does properly show up as having been acquired when viewing the set.
I’m having similar issue of it telling me it isn’t meant for my elemental shaman, Though the learning of the transmog is a simple fix. Either obtain the shield as a drop or obtain it from the vendor and then get rid of the resell timer. Unfortunately the resell time is a bit more annoying to remove though as you have to either equip it or send it to an alt by mail to forcefully remove it now days, I don’t know why they thought it a good idea to do but all vendors now count as reselling it for the refund instead of just the original vendor you purchased it from if the timer is still on the item.
Having the same issue, just purchased it as the last piece I needed and all the mobs were dropping were their cloth pants! Wink wink!
Same issue. Arms Warrior, got the message, didn’t read through it because I figured it didn’t matter. Apparently it did. Didn’t get added to my collections and now I’ve got a useless shield I won’t be equipping and I’m down some currency.
EDIT: Just figured I’d mention that Talorana is right. I relogged sometime back on the same character and it was there (I kept the item just in case, but I doubt that mattered). Not that that mattered, either, because I then got the shield as a random drop anyway shortly after.
Relog, it shows up. These items are bugged some reason where they don’t say they are learned but they are.
