Prepare To Die Many Times

You will die. Many, many times.
Classic WoW cannot be done solo without being dead, a lot.
It forces you into groups. Prepare for the punishment of pulling 3 mobs.
Elites are not to be underestimated.

granted, vanilla was hard but you are overexaggerating a bit.

the majority of quests could be done solo and were made for that reason. and a lot of quests required a group to complete. vanilla was not a full on group 100% of the time. like your op makes it sound.

as far as mobs are concerned, yes. its easier to group up, even for those solo quests. it makes it faster and eliminates traffic (<to an extent anyway).

knowing your class, how to play it and mastering CC (Crowd Control)- is the difference between dying and succeeding. that needs to be stressed.

It has been so long many have forgotten.
It will be punishing for many.

Game is easy. Dunno what you’re on about.

Solo it as a warrior, good luck.

A bit of hyperbole, but yes people will certainly die more than they are used to compared to other MMOs in the last several years.

1-60 is still very much solo-able, but yes there will be content you just can’t do without a group, and not talking about “group quests”

edit: and I’m looking forward to every minute of it!

Theres definitely challenges. I had forgotten about some of them too. The first I encountered was as a leveling Warrior. Didnt carry enough food (modern wow spoiled me) and I was trying to solo the Murloc quest on the coast of Darkshore.

WANTED: Murkdeep!

Had forgotten the mechanics of the quest (Im not supposed to stand in the center of the camp, lol) but tried to solo it at level 16 or so anyway. Had to clear the whole camp, then 3 waves of mobs ran out of the ocean at me one after the other, then a 4th wave including a level 19 orange Murkdeep with two adds came out and finished me off.

Im sure for some classes (or maybe even a warrior with some food and time to med up between all those mobs) it might be fine. But it was a game of kiting in between my swing timer of my 2h just to get as far into those waves as I did. But trying to finish an orange con with 5% HP proved to be too much. And he has a net cc so you cant kite.

Felt good to be in danger and actually fight for your life though. Had been a long time.

Hunters disagree.

My rogue might die once or twice, particularly before it gets Vanish.

But the only thing that’s killing my warlock is like that quest where you gotta talk to the guy outside BRM as a ghost (I forget what that was actually for)…

Ahh yeah, that ones for the key to BRD I think. Hellfire for suicide still counts as a death right? lol.

So, who’s doing the ironman challenge for Classic™?

I was a Warrior in Vanilla. I was the Tank… a DPS/Tank who mastered the art of stance dancing… and switching from 2H DPS to 1H and shield. I understand the critical importance of good pulls of mobs or I would aggro the patrol that would also aggro the next group of mobs. Yeah, there were wipes on a wrong pull. But eventually after farming those dungeons, I was able to get the hang of it. I have beaten the 45 min Stratholme run (the first timed run of WoW) many many times carrying friends and guildies as their DPS/Tank.

But if I would play Vanilla again, I would have a Hunter if I want to avoid deaths. I played Hunter on TBC becoz DPS warrior became obsolete as DPS back then. Groups then requires CC and DPS warriors has none. I was glad to play Hunter on TBC. I was able to handle 3 mobs on every mob pulls on 5-man dungeons. Trap one target, kite the 2nd target while nuking the main target… and still top the damage meters. Hunters were OP back then.

Hunters can solo any elite mobs in the World especially the melee mobs. Aspect of the Cheetah was so OP. Just kite those melee elite mobs to the town and let the guard kill them for you. That was fun. It’s impossible to die as a Hunter on PvE World in my opinion.

Planning on doing that for the second time when Classic launches.

Anyone who doesn’t learn to properly pull away from the camps will die many times. The last thing they’ll hear before their fate is sealed is a gnoll cackle or gurgle sounding war cry.

Yeah this is definitely for sure. Can’t go charging in, facepulling entire groups like in retail.

sounds like dark souls to me. can’t wait

Vanilla was not that hard. Maybe on a warrior but every other class soloed just fine.

For those that never experienced Vanilla-Wrath they’re in for a rude awakening.
Retail has spoiled its players in the leveling process.
Many deaths.

Hell, I played from Vanilla - WOTLK and STILL died a bunch during the demo, it was awesome.

Classic is hard because your gear is always garbage in the leveling up process. Dungeons are way harder, questing trying to solo mobs as non pet classes is not easy when mobs are dense.

If your group pulled too many mobs chances are your healer is going OOM and it’s a wipe.
