I’ve already read a couple posts elsewhere mentioning chargebacks in regards to DF preorders so I’m making this post in the futile attempt to inform people.
Some folks on the internet seem to think banks can just unwind a purchase you agreed to and charges you authorized.
This is rarely the case and getting a chargeback from a bank is typically reserved for cases of fraud or unauthorized charges and purchases.
If you preorder Dragonflight, digitally or physically, and get hit with buyer’s remorse filing a chargeback with your bank is not the right way to do it.
Different banks have different thresholds for chargebacks and how they process them, but typically anything over $50 or $100 gets looked at more closely.
You would have to lie or misrepresent the situation with your financial institution of choice to even begin the process.
Then you have to consider the consequences.
If you frequently file chargebacks, banks can and will drop you as a customer.
Companies you file chargebacks against can and will block/ban you as a customer.
Those same companies can and will submit proof of the transaction and dispute the chargeback.
I’m sure this will fall on deaf ears, but before you go spending money you might regret you should understand that chargebacks are for fraud not just you changed your mind and don’t like waiting for customer service to respond.
Make sure the purchase is something you actually want and realize that all those digital goods and game time you redeem are a fulfillment of that purchase making it very hard to refund legitimately.
TL;DR Chargebacks aren’t for buyers remorse, think before you buy!

This.
I worked for a credit card company a few years back.
Chargebacks and disputes aren’t for buyers remorse, they’re for fraud and erroneous charges. Don’t abuse the system.

dont tell me what to do with my money
OP, I guess it really depends on whether you can demonstrate that Blizzard misrepresented their product. People have been complaining about the transmog wings, saying that they are itty bitty (what I have found online from Blizzard shows they are pretty big) or are saying they don’t show at all.
Beyond that, I believe people shouldn’t buy something before seeing what it actually would be like (alpha/bata). But that’s me.
Depends on your bank. Directly from the Chase Bank website they allow chargebacks for “A product or service you received and are dissatisfied with”.
how the hell you finding a post over 5 months old and think to yourself “i need to respond because my opinion on this topic matters”

Pretty sure they perma ban your account if you do this type of thing too so only do it if you never intend to return to the game.

Buyers remorse is a thing, but that’s why you don’t preorder stuff. Thought people in 2022 would understand this after how shamelessly bad and hollow games have been for the past decade.
Chargebacks should be used only as a last resort when all other methods of communication or refund has fallen through.
ex: you commission someone, but its been past 90 days, artist won’t follow through. No communication, proof of no product/delivery but Paypal won’t budge due to the 90 day limit. THEN you go to the bank and ask for a charge back.
With digital software its a bit different, but look into your trade and consumer laws on digital products in your country (or region if EU) on what is considered ‘refundable’, what’s the time window for refunds as well. Don’t let companies lie and bully you like bethesda did with Fallout 76 saying they gave ‘no refunds’ but there clearly was a window for refunds (play under 2 hours of the game) and got the book thrown at them.
This is why you don’t preorder expansions.
