Title, I’m running Oracle as Discipline Priest. If you cast Premonition of Solace, your next single targeting healing spell will grant a Solace shield to the target. However, there’s a weird interaction with penance if you target an ally.
After casting Premonition of Solace or Clairvoyance:
Cast Penance on enemy: Solace shield goes to whoever the extra penance bolts from Twinsight fly to. This kinda makes sense, the penance bolts are flying to a single ally, so it should shield them.
Cast Penance on self: Solace shield goes on self. This also makes sense.
Cast Penance on ally, Solace shield applies to the Priest/caster despite targeting the ally.
So if I were to cast penance on a Boomkin, I would get the shield instead of the Boomkin.
This makes absolutely no sense. I am healing the Boomkin, why am I getting the shield? Is this a bug? It doesn’t seem intentional.
I noticed this too: twinsight’s friendly penance bolts will pop Solace on whoever they hit first. ( happens too during clairvoyance )
After the first few times I caught it happening I had to be mindful when Solace is coming up so I can place it when/where I want with a quick renew. It’s kinda neat in solo content. ( because it auto pops it on you when you penance for damage, nice for higher delves lol )
When clairvoyance rolls around I usually just let solace’s shield go wherever though because my spell cast priorities are elsewhere if I am popping clairvoyance - which makes controlling where Solace goes harder.
With Clairvoyance though you can renew for solace on one person and pwshieldx4 to blanket the group before a mechanic. Probably not optimal but kinda neat.
I don’t see it as a huge issue at the end of the day though because generally I plan solace in advance as a personal defensive or on a squishy person - and always popped it with renew - for an unavoidable dmg mechanic.
