I am currently on my R10 grind, and I am almost finished with no desire to rank any higher. Recently, I have noticed Premades using Flasks in BGs.
Is this the new normal for BGs? Use Flasks or get wrecked.
Also, I played this game religiously when it first came out in early 2000s. Premades were very rare in BGs and nobody really used consumes other than healing/mana pots and maybe a FaP once in a while. I gotta say this new flask meta is kind of annoying, because now my PUG teams dont even get 1 HK. We get zero honor BGs.
I would assume due to the flasks prevelance in pve situations and the recent hotfix quadrupling the supply of black lotus, flasks are provably cheap enough to be used in pvp situations now
For those with a life who still wish to get rank 13 you’d have to go all out from ranks 12-13. You’ll want to win basically every game to maximize your honor gained for the time you play. You’d want to be in a good pre-made with like-minded players who use consumes as well.
I plan on going for it eventually and when I do I’m going to make darn sure I’m stocked up on all consumes including flasks for the last 2 weeks or so for the last rank.
But for ranks up to 11 I feel like it’s sort of a waste to use flasks unless you’re the designated flag carrier in a pre-made. And if you are the designated flag carrier other people in the pre-made should be contributing towards your flasks if they’re making you flask and you’re the only one doing it.
Why though? BWL gear is just as good, if not better… Can you guys really not find guilds that can clear BWL? Its litterally 1/100th the effort of getting to R14. Also, some of the itemization on R10 gear makes it even better than R13 gear.
Some players have an almost unlimited supply of gold and are flasked more often then not. Flasks are not a terrible investment for rankers since it doesn’t go away when you die and if you plan on running nothing but BGs all day, why not?
You are definitely wearing rose colored glasses here. The forums then looked remarkably similar to the forums today. Complaint after complaint about premades vs pugs. It’s the honor system, it forces people who are seriously ranking into running premades all day every day.
Look at the 2 piece champion for Warlock at R10. Its insanely good. For 2 pieces you get 2 crit, and the spell damage set bonus on top of the spell damage the pieces already have.
It contributes less to winning a pvp fight than the extra stamina does.
Think of it this way. If you line two of the same class up to duel and just have them straight slugfest each other, nothing fancy who wins? The one wearing the rank 13 gear.
Similarly, think about enchants. Not that these are relevant anymore since we have ZG enchants, but 8 sp libram vs 100 hp libram. On a 100% coefficient it takes 13 spell casts for that 8 spell power to have done as much to shift the battle as the 100hp enchant did.
There arent hardly any fights that go that long, meaning 100hp pretty much always is more valuable for that duel than 8 spellpower.
That’s completely class and spec dependent. Many classes have better rank 13 gear than what is currently available (on par with AQ gear) and for every single class the current 100% BiS raiding weapon is the R14 weapon. Even healers can get a healing weapon that’s got well over 100 spell power on it from R14 whereas the best BWL weapon has 83.
Been clearing BWL since it came out. But druid tier gear is all resto and I’d like a good feral/resto hybrid spec as that’s the spec I eventually want to PvP with.
The set benefits and stats on the rank 13 druid epic PvP set make it BiS for feral/resto hybrid PvP. Naxx gear doesn’t even replace it. Plus it just looks awesome.
This is not the case with the druid PvP sets. And if I’m not mistaken it’s only the case for warriors wearing only 2/6 of the blue set.
I grinded to rank 10 because I wanted the blue shoulders and legs, BiS 2 peice for PVE. FULL r13 is only slightly better in PVE for raw damage than running BiS raid drops with 2 peice R10 for fury warrior. If you are fury/prot tanking, I doubt you will find anything better than R13 though.
With the lower price, I’d flask in BGs if I knew I was going to be playing them for a few hours, especially as Alliance where we have instant queues. I got Grand Marshal in February though, so I haven’t had any reason to queue up for hours on end. With Flask + Zandalari + Kings + Fort, I’m pretty sure I could break 10k HP as a Hunter.
