I am one of those players that forms/has formed Rated BGs in Retail, formed PvP Groups back in Vanilla all the way off and on till today. For years and years of playing this awesome game I have enjoyed the many forms of PvP it has to offer including BGs, World PvP, and even Arenas. Do I think I am in the top 5-10% of skilled players, no… however that doesn’t stop me from having my fun in all these various ways I can PvP.
In SoD I have a Guild and we do Premade PvP and we actually and quite literally Obliterate the enemy team if they are a PuG. If we are out in full force (10man) they legit have no chance whatsoever, and I think the only time we lost when we are running Premade is when our numbers severely dwindled in subsequent Queues and the other team had a few smaller teams (not full PuG as we could see the ones from the same servers grouped and worked together, so we assume them to be grouped). When we are down to around 5 people, we could get any number of AFKers, Keyboard Turners, or just people that seem lost as to where to be and that small amount of randomness sometimes is enough to cause a loss if the enemy team seems to work more cohesively (although a much closer match then our FULL premade).
All this being said, the answer to “do Premades have fun beating PuGs”, starts with a yes (well at first). When we get together to “Stomp some noobs” at the start of the night it’s funny to see how fast they die, and how quick we win the games. However rapidly in the night especially the more skilled players eventually get the yawns, because it’s actually TOO easy… and you’ll actually immediately see the enemy team (or the smarter ones that know they’re getting farmed by a premade by looking at the score card) all stop playing, which forces us to get what kills we can then cap out to win the game. However the people in our group that are less skilled, or don’t seem to get enough after winning back to back with no challenge seem to revel in it. Like the ones that still could work on some things in PvP, well they’re the ones that get addicted usually… like a weird nerdy bloodlust. The rest of us feel untouchable but go numb, and it’s less and less fun.
In conclusion I love to Premade, but I like a challenge and I want Premades to fight against others just as prepared as I am. I don’t really always want a super fast win, but I enjoy the Rated BGs in Retail where you are going to have some tough to swallow losses, but it makes the Victories oh so much sweeter than “Stomping noobs”.
I as an experienced Premade Player support more Queue options. Perhaps award Premades with more Rep for Wins than regular Queue, and allow Regular Queue to still Queue with a few Buddies but not a Full Raid team, that way everyone has a place to play PvP with whatever they have available. (such as a small tight knit pvp guild who typically can’t form a full Premade)
TLDR; Experienced PvPer (Premade Enjoyer) explains why having multiple Queue Options is better than Premade Queue Vs PuG.
