I, like most gamers got hooked on PC and Console games way back in the infancy of gaming. At first they were simple games like Asteroids, Pong, Mario Brothers, Donkey Kong etc. Remember Game Cassettes and Floppy Discs ?
Now we play World of Warcraft which runs well on most PCs. And have a huge library of games for PCs and the Consoles.
Over the years we have bought the latest gaming consoles released, and the best PCs we could afford. The games themselves have developed into high definition, high graphical works of art. Well the triple A titles at least.
But, at this point with my last purchase of the PS4. I have stopped wanting to buy, what is referred to as a Next Generation Console because I just don’t see any improvements that are worthy of the monetary investment.
I have looked at the games out for the PS5. They are the same games (Mostly) I already have on my PS4. I have watched Youtube video comparisons of the PS4 and PS5 graphics. As well as watching display PS5 and Xbox games run on screens at game-shops.
But I only see a slight improvement that in my humble opinion is meaningless, in the sense that I would not want to plop-down hundreds of dollars for a slight improvement on what I already have.
As far as PC’s go. I have an old PC which can run some games and not others. Depending
on how well the game is optimized for PC. At this point I find it not a viable option to spend any more money trying to upgrade my PC or buy a new one in order to keep up with the technology.
So my question to you is: Has the technology behind the Gaming Industry stagnated, reached a point it can’t really surpass?
What do you predict will be the advancements for future generations of gaming machines that will make the purchase price worth it.
I’m convinced Tigersan is ecstatic over ChatGPT and posts these IGN esque article posts.

I think you’re asking the wrong question. IMO it’s not that the gaming industry has stagnated, rather the price for cutting edge tech out passes what the majority of normal gamers can buy.
For instance, right now VR is still hyper expensive and with it being so expensive it cuts the player base of that tech down considerably and if that player base is low that means no one is going to put time into building things for that tech, outside the big players like valve etc.
Let’s not even think about graphics cards now costing 1000s of dollars, not because the cost of making them has become so expensive, but because companies like Nvidia are able to continue to bleed the industry dry and get away with it.
just my 2 cents.

I don’t use a chat program. But thanks anyway. I guess?
There’s an increasing amount of PS5 only games.
No. There has been a years long chip shortage which has slowed things down though.
I still have a toploader NES that I bought in high school + my entire collection of games that I started when I was 10 years old. It actually is kind of amazing to me how cheap NES games are compared to SNES games. I know SNES is generally regarded as better but NES has some bangers.
Oh wait we’re talking modern gaming. I bought this computer during the pandemic with a stimulus check, once it’s obsolete several years from now I might go back to NES rather than spend a grand just to play this game and really nothing else.
Oh what am I saying, I’ll probably play this game until I die. Just because prior generations had nothing similar doesn’t mean it won’t happen to me.
James Halliday and the OASIS will fix that!
Are you ready player one?
ringers crossed and hope its worth every penny

I think the next step will be very good VR, and ultimately direct neural stimulation. There will come a day when games are literally indistinguishable from real life because it will have the same impact on the brain - sound, taste, smell. We will eventually live the games we play.
