They’ve already said they have the option to make them swappable ready to go if they need to use it. The question is how many lost subs is it going to take for them to use it?
Can i ask a serious question to anyone talking about “meaningful choice” in this game: when has there ever been that in this game’s existence? Im genuinely curious.
This is not the fault of the players though. Long before MDI, World First was a thing. Hell, Server First use to be a thing too. It’s a game and in a game there will always be competition. Blizzard put in M+, they put in the timers. They knew damn right well what they were doing and what the outcome would be.
This is precisely the point. There is a camp that will remain unhappy if other players are able to swap freely because it will somehow affect their gameplay or mean their choice is shallow (to quote an earlier poster). It’s not enough to simply tell them - if you don’t want to play multiple covenants, then that is a “you” issue. They’d rather everyone be restricted to 1 covenant.
But there are solutions around being Covenant-locked already. For example, running 4 of the same class, all-leather / plate only M+ runs to accelerate funneling etc. I totally agree these are degenerative playstyles but they will creep into the game.
The only difference here is at what level and how often.
To the former people - making choices that matter exist BECAUSE we can adjust for every situation.
It’s not always the “right” choice, but it’s a choice that may be influenced by the strategy of the group or an idea of a single person that the group is willing to try. It may cost the individual personal throughput for the greater success of the team.
These are all meaningful choices - and to many players, being able to think and strategize within the game is fun and valuable; being able to test, experiment, and try different things is meaningful to them. Restricting these choices waters down the game for these players - and “meaningful” choices aren’t really meaningful; they end up just being punishing.
In a single player game or even a free-to-play game these restrictions make sense. But in an MMO RPG with a paid subscription - it’s outright disrespectful to tons of players.
The choice actually means more to remain loyal when you don’t have to. The gameplay is literally uneffected.
If covenants were restricted or swappable - I would still just pick and stick with one.
The issue is that players like myself don’t want others to be able to swap around will-nilly. Not because it impacts our gameplay or choice, but because we want others to play the game the way we want it to be played. If they want to deviate from that - then they need to be punished. Either through time gated quests or by having to have multiple characters of the same class.
In what capacity does “pot meet kettle” fit here? I’m not the one whining about the possibility of people in a digital space forcing me to swap covenants because I don’t realize that the act of forcing anyone to do anything in this game is literally impossible.
I will say this for the last time for people asking “Why do you care about how others enjoy the game?”
This is a MMORPG we want RPG elements to remain a staple in this game.
I have presented several solutions as a compromise I would hope everyone could hash it out.
Provide a stacking buff to those staying with the same covenant.
This will keep a RP element of the game showing your are loyal to your covenant. The buff doesn’t have to be damage but maybe increased reward drops etc.
Separate the abilities from the covenants but keep the visual rewards and story elements in those covenants locking them with no switching.
That way you can have all the abilities keeping the story elements intact. Again as a staple in any RPG the story is supposed to drive the game play.
Debuff when switching covenants lowering the soulbind buffs.
Again you are free to switch but their is a penalty for disloyalty keeping RP elements alive.
Preach speaks for himself and anyone else in his circle. I don’t care for the fact that Blizzard seems to choose individuals and give them a platform to inject this toxic way of thinking that there are good and bad choices based on a spreadsheet or some random persons opinion.
Nothing personal against anyone b/c I don’t know anyone personally. Everyone has an opinion. When that opinion is just picked up without thought by others and ran with is when toxicity becomes an issue. Everyone keeps asking the same tired question of “What does it matter” answer: This is an MMORPG and the story affects the game play that is why.
When does someone disagreeing make them your enemy or point of agitation?
If this was Halo or a first person shooter I would agree, but the story of Shadowlands matters. Part of that story is joining a covenant and helping them restore their society. I just don’t understand whats hard to grasp from these facts in THIS genre of gaming.
Because they have been driving the direction of the game for several expansions now, and it has resulted in a less than fun experience for the rest of us. Everytime we complained, we got told to get good and suck it up.
Thats why we care. Their control of the game affects us in a negative way.
You’re confused on what feedback actually is.
Saying a covenant is imbalanced and needs adjusting to be in line with other covenants is feedback.
Crying about the game not letting you play the way you want to play it is not feedback. That’s whiny entitlement.
Focus on addressing the covenant abilities and helping blizzard fix/balance them.
Sitting around crying all day isn’t helping anyone. Blizzard already told you and everyone else how they’re going forward in Shadowlands. That isn’t changing Karen.
