So, today, March 2nd, I found out that my Battle.Net app is downloading a patch for WoW. It’s a FOUR-POINT-FIVE GIGABYTES patch named “pre-release download”. What is going on? Here’s the image link: https://i.imgur.com/L1Dw8Qh.png
I got an updated but it was less than 100mb, I think
Maybe a new skybox. A hostile one that rains shards of glass and laser beams.
And a nighttime kaleidescope. That’d be cool
I’ve had the same for the last 3 days and hasn’t stopped showing. My internet connection is of 140mb/s, which shouldn’t be an issue. It’s a little green icon under the blue “Play” button, right under the “Options” gear. Mouse over message says: “You’re downloading an update in advance so it’ll be ready when you need it.” If I recall right, I’ve only seen this before an expansion, not an update. And last time, I tried to use the “repair” option but it messed up the whole game launching process. Back then I had to download everything again.
EDIT: I just found (1 day after my initial post) that I’ve been getting a ton of .idx and data.xxx files since March 3. And I mean - many. Some are over 1GB of size and saved within the same minute or in consecutive minutes within the same time.
Hope this is the case, a big patch.
I woke up this morning, my laptop is in full fan mode. But I wasn’t doing anything. Just rolled out of bed, literally.
Checked processes, saw drive use high…no errant process standing out though. Chance of hack not strong looked like.
But I turned it off just to be sure lol. Only blizz I have auto update so most likely the cause. Even my steam I do full manual.
or Pocopoc rain
…That would be cute
That’s weird, I don’t have a pre-release downloading in the background.
For everyone downloading at <100kb/s → Go into the settings menu (The little cog in the OP), scroll to the bottom of the Download tab and uncheck “Limit download bandwidth”. It’s limited to 100kbs by default.
