I was stoked when I saw we got Shiv as a powerful new rune ability. I was sure it was going to get nerfed and replaced with something useless and boring like a movement speed increase or AoE. But to my surprise it was Hunter’s that got nerfed! Rogues dodged a bullet on that one. If our luck holds maybe we will get Improved Kick as a rune ability in the next phase.
Seriously though…Shiv? I am still having fun in SoD but they could have done a lot better by rogues.
It just feels lame. I am also disappointed with the watered down version of Shadowstep that requires stealth and does not even let you choose your own opener. It is so awful. I have not played any other classes so maybe I am exaggerating here, but mages have great single target and AoE damage and they also get a powerful heal? Next phase they will probably allow water elementals to tank.
It is like they go hog wild layering it on with some classes but saved all the weak sauce to spread on rogues.
Id hold fast on the rogue changes. Shuriken Toss was teased which has me extremely pumped for later phases.
If you want to see what actual uninspiring runes look like, go read what hunter got. I actually think ill shelf my typical hunter main and fully swap to rogue with a priest or sham sprinkled in
I have not done any PvP yet as I have been focused on levelling. Maybe I should just focus on PvP as it appears that is where are runes will be the most useful. Not having acquired all my runes yet, I have not been able to try tanking. But the few posts I have read say it is not ideal and might not become viable until later phases. That is a shame because we were sold the idea that Rogues would be capable tanks.
It might actually be a weird case of it actually being good brew and envenom.
Poison is going hard right now so the 100% weapon damage + poison damage might end up edging out SS, will stack up deadly poison really fast and make envenom max value.
I’ll test it out tomorrow - would be hilarious if shiv actually ended up being dope
I am at lvl 21 atm and have not gotten my poison quest yet. Even still though, this is a rune ability. If they had sent me a survey of which talents Rogues would want as a rune abilities, I would have never included Shiv in that list. I doubt many other rogues would have either.
Shiv isn’t bad as you don’t want to hope for rng on crippling in PvP… It’s the best way to keep a druid FC slowed. Once you get mind numbing weapon swapping to shiv will be important. It’s way better than SS garbage.
That is the second post basically saying if I want to be able to appreciate my talents then I need to go PvP. I have been speccing into the combat tree with the expectation that i could try this rogue tank thing. But since that does not appear to be working out for the rogues that have tried it, that looks like a dead end for now. I guess I will respec to Sub instead and just do my end game (for now) in Ashenvale. Careful out there. I will be lurking somewhere with Shiv.
Shiv is actually amazing and one of the things that was seriously missing from the rogue kit in vanilla. Its one of the most important rogue abilties that was introduced in TBC. If you dont pvp i can see why you are unimpressed though, as it is a pvp centric ability.
Maybe they need a separate tree for PvP runes, kind of like what they have in retail where you get access to three additional abilities for PvP. I just feel there were some frustrations that could have been addressed to make the class feel more modern. The sloth movement in stealth for one and the lack of AoE for another. Getting those things fixed in retail were hard earned wins for rogues and it took forever to happen. Now we are back with those same glaring problems and nothing being done to address them. I don’t want retail as SoD, but I do want my rogue to feel changed and improved. Otherwise I could just play classic era and have a very similar experience to what i have now.
I mean, it is feedback. I am not yelling and screaming like a mad man. I am using humor (sarcasm) to try and discuss some problems with the game. I would much rather deal with sarcasm than anger.
Shiv actually really is nuts in PvP. If you dont think so either never tried it or are bad. If you time it right can get 5 cp and envenom with 5 stacks of deadly off with out having to wait for energy once. Also guarantee get the slow off. I honestly dont know if its bugged or lol cause the damage is absolutely nuts while the ability itself only hits for 20-30.
