When should I be using PW:S when healing? I’m kinda just avoiding it at the moment as warriors seem to hate it due to how rage works and it seems more mana efficient to just spot heal whatever damage my DPS take.
I’m use to healing in retail where PW:S was a huge part of my kit.
Warriors can’t generate rage. So you never use it.
cause rage. use it on person if they pull aggro. or after tank has aggro aoe. warriors take a bit of time if they good. if they bad they will just suck at it.
Use it on someone that doesn’t use rage…or as a life saving moment to buy time for a good heal
towards end of aoe pull with a shield, you can drink till point it fades.
use it if someones getting chunked, including the tank. the bubble is usually enough to get a flash heal in.
Rage aside, PW:S is one of the least efficient spells you are gonna get. So use it as an emergency to buy time to cast a longer heal. Outside of that, don’t use it.
Its an invaluable tool… but don’t use it as part of a healing rotation.
if they die, just say you lagged.
Absolute last resort emergency.
If the tank is at 1% HP and about to die, you can PW:S them.
In addition, if you are taking hits from several mobs and need to cast without knockback, use it on yourself. Otherwise, don’t use it at all.
Use it whenever it’s off cooldown, except on warriors.
Only use it on warriors if they’re about to die.
Pw:S is a great instant cast heal but it has a high mana cost. So you have to be careful or it will eat your mana. I use it when there’s an emergency and I’m rushed. Everyone makes mistakes and sometimes a pull goes bad. It’s your job to get the group through the bad pull alive. Tank is getting hit hard and going down while dps is getting hit to. I might not have time to heal everyone. So I’ll put a shield on the mage and heal the tank. If things are happening fast I’ll be healing as much as I can and shielding when I need the instant cast. Just don’t put it on the tank except as a last resort. Tank is low and might die before I can heal. I’ll shield to stop the damage and follow it with the heal. It’s all situational. On a smooth run you’re rarely need it. But when a mistake is made and the sht has hit the fan don’t be afraid to use between the heals.
I also have a macro that selects me and casts shield. I’ll use it immediately if I’m getting hit. That way I can continue healing with out interruptions or taking damage. Often I’ll cast shield, run through the melee pack to the tank, casting renews while I run if I need to. When I come out the other side a good tank will often have picked up the add that was on me
Use it on mages and warlocks when they are AOEing. Being shielded prevents their cast being interrupted.
No, not in classic. It’s a too inefficient use of mana. You’ll run out of mana or at least have to drink after every pull.
OP, please do not listen to this terrible advice. PW:S is the least mana-efficient “heal” you have. It is far better to just let the party members take the damage and heal it afterwards with a more mana-efficient spell.
I agree with using it only in emergencies, but when a pull goes bad, it’s all the more important to be careful with what spells you choose, lest you waste all of your mana too soon and people start dying because you’re OOM.
That’s what Renew is for. If they’re already so low that Renew won’t be enough, you’ve been slacking in healing, or the tank is totally AFK.
Mages AoE with Arcane Explosion, which doesn’t get interrupted. Warlocks probably won’t pull aggro off a decent tank.
Throw it on a mage before healing him when he’s getting beaten on. Or give it to a mage when he’s running in to AoE normal mobs. Paladin tanks can make use of them without too much of a fuss as well. Overall though the mana cost for it isn’t very efficient. It’s more like a oh sh*t spell when someone is low on health and you give them a temporary shield. Newbies will think wouldn’t it be great to put it on everyone in the group but they will run out of mana too fast. Use it on yourself when you’re leveling I guess is the other time. You should also put it on yourself when you’re getting beaten on while healing. It prevents spell pushback after all.
I disagree. People make mistakes. I don’t get upset about it unless they make the same mistake pull after pull. The tank might not be familiar with the run. It might be his first time through it. He might not know or notice a pack of floaters that joins in the middle of a pull. Or a hunter might be tab targeting and accidentally pull in another group. It happens. Sometimes you need all the tools in the tool kit. Sometimes the group is taking more dps then the healer’s hps. Sometimes all you can do is slow the health bars from going down hoping the dps will kill them before the wipe. Sometimes you have to pick a person to let die. Perhaps you’ve never been in a group where anyone made a mistake. Lucky you. But if you’re not able to use shield and manage your mana you probably shouldn’t use it.
on dps ripping aggro or when tank is at 10% hp and you need time to heal
Sounds like you’re in some hard core guild that demands a certain spec and play style. I’ve often seen mages aoe with blizzard.
Warlocks can definitely pull aggro when using hellfire.
ok chief lol
