Can anyone recommend their favorite brand or what they have had good luck with? Particularly a SFX model?
Also - is it worth going Platinum over Gold?

Seasonic Power Supply
I build gaming rigs for a reason in these are the only power supplies that I have never seen a customer have to RMA. They all have a minimum of 10 year warranty
Favorite brand, good luck, and and good unit are all three separate things and the first two have nothing to do with the latter.
First you need to figure out how much power you will demand in the tasks you perform and then find a unit capable of providing that power. Once you find that unit check professional reviews (not amazon and newegg buyers) to make sure the unit is well built and capable. I will say Corsair has put out some very good SFX units and their customer service & warranty is top notch. I would start your search with them.
As for gold vs platinum (assuming build quality & parts being fairly equal), unless your power rates are crazy expensive it’s rarely worth the extra cost. In fact many gold units offer close to platinum efficiency and in some cases do offer it just are positioned in the market place as gold for sales.
I believe those are ATX only my friend
They are but there’s an aftermarket company that makes adapters for them. To be honest I didn’t realize he needed it for SFX.
Seasonic makes some. It’s pretty much one of the best Brands out there
I need to get better at Reading Post thoroughly before replying

they use the seasonic focus plus & prime platform and just swap out some of the caps from nippon to hitachi (if I recall correctly) and not that it really matters.

Just an FYI, you can obviously house the ATX PSU in a separate enclosure and run extensions cables from the ATX PSU into the PC case but that would defeat the small foot print of the case. You can leave the PSU outside the case (like a test bench scenario) and run the extension cables but that would be a dangerous scenario especially if you are not properly set up for it.
Asus ROG Strix also made by Seasonic.

Corsair SF series is great. New Cooler Master SFX PSUS looks good.

I know. Just most people dont know how many other brands power supplys Seasonic makes. Its easier and faster just to list it as its own brand lol
Yeah, some brands just slaps their sticker on products not made by them. Some actually increase the requirements though.

Faster sure, but many OEMs really just specialize in the back end; making the product, packaging it, putting it on the container and off it goes.
The front end; handling importing, channel distribution & marketing, customer service & warranty, and marketing they really don’t want the headache.
Really most of the PC industry (and many others) works like this. Your case, fans, AIO, wi-fi adapter, router, monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc., is rarely made by the company who’s logo is on the packaging.

Corsair and Cooler Master are two of the “brands” that have PSU designers on staff. Obviously OEMs that sell their own units under their brand such as Seasonic, FSP, Cougar (aka HEC), Super Flower (just to name a few) have their own people although they don’t necessarily build the units from A-Z or won’t outsource to other OEMs.
Corsair, Seasonic, Evga (depends on the line though) are among I’ll recommend since they are also usually selling for a good price.
Check website reviews on the one you want which may help you decide as well. Reviews from websites like Tomshardware, Johnny guru, Guru3d etc not comment reviews from Newegg/Amazon.
That said I did just order a XPG Core reactor 750w gold to replace my Evga 650w gold for when I get a 3070/3080.
Oh Corsair SF600 is 112.49 from Corsair website with 10% off either of these codes SP4ZIE JAY3 KINGGEORGE .
Yeah, look up individual reviews for specific SKUs because each brand has stinkers.
Can’t really judge on a brand basis, only model-to-model since they’re all made by a small handful of actual manufacturers (much like RAM).
I’ve had very good luck with my EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G2’s, which if I’m not mistaken were manufactured by Super Flower. They’ve given me years of steady service without any issues whatsoever.
The one thing that’s consistent though is that it rarely pays to cheap out. Unless the machine is going to be used only for Word and web browsing, take some time to research and find something worth buying.
