Way back in the old days, my friends and I used to power level alts for each other. I’d bring a high level character into a dungeon with my low level buddy and clear all the mobs while my friend gets all the delicious XP.
I think if you do it in a dungeon with a max level character there’s an XP penalty, which is why people usually use level 10 twinks with unusually high ilvl gear if they’re going to try doing it in dungeons. You can power level people in open world areas though.
I got someone from like level 27 to 70 in the Cobalt Assembly in a few hours before the XP there got nerfed. There are other power leveling spots but they aren’t nearly as good, plus they have higher gear requirements.
So you were able to Power Level a level 27 in the Cobalt Assembly? I didn’t think you could even get into the Dragonflight area until level 60. So how does that work?
1> “Way back in the old days” … if you out-leveled someone by more than 5 levels, they got almost no exp. I think it was reduced 95% after 5 levels. Nice rose-tinted goggles.
2> Thankfully, this was changed with the introduction of “Party-Synch”, which allows you to match levels with your friends so that you can quest together. You become “weaker” in the process, but you’re still incredibly powerful to the point “powerleveling” is a practical term.
3> The Cobalt Assembly, as the players were doing it, was unintended. That’s why it was changed.
In BfA they broke twink power leveling by reducing the XP gained by party members within 200 yards by 95% if someone in the group has experience disabled.
However that only works for pre-made groups; if you encounter a twink through dungeon finder your XP won’t be reduced.
Originally this change was to prevent the 110 DH’s selling Freehold power leveling. I haven’t heard if other changes have been made since then.
Sort of, but you need to do it via Level bands instead of max level carrying a lowbie.
Realistically speaking though it’s more efficient to do it via kill quests and level sync until Chromie time ends - Warlords is good here because you can stack up the bonus XP zones with a bunch of kill quests and get several levels quickly.
Once your friend hits 60 you can blaze through any of the Dragon Flight dungeons and get them to max in about 2 hours.
In BC, my friend used to take his max level mage and run my newbie butt through all the dungeons. Leveled very quickly. You got your time table mixed up, which is fine, but don’t be snarky unless you’re 100% sure about your perspective.
That was the way to do it in the before times. But its been ruined for awhile now. Best way is to speed kill everything for quests now so all they have to do is loot stuff basically.
Thanks friend! We decided to do the synch route and just play together that way, and I quest when he’s not on (my favorite thing to do, so much delicious nostalgia.)
