Potential resolution to lfg griefing

Not a bad idea, it would mitigate the farming mentality many of them have and their complete disregard for others in the community.

You make the level of harm sound like someone force-deleted your account. It’s selfish and inconsiderate on the level of hitting the brakes hard at a stop sign to make it clear that you stopped first and you’re gonna go first.

Just going to touch on this, they still haven’t implemented that yet.

I left Dawnbreaker earlier cause i kept getting killed by the ship, apologised to my group and dipped (I like Dawnbreaker, but I’m not staying in a dungeon that kills me for moving)… No deserter penalty. Queued right back up.

“You” Who?

Tbh a better fix is making deserter account wide and scale.

If you want to queue and just leave. Fine. None of your other toons can queue, oh! And the debuff gets longer. Wanna be a nuisance, here you go.

… Or make it so you have to be actively logged in for it to diminish. No logging off and just letting it tick down lol.

+1. Solid solution that helps in the long run even after M+ starts.

Right, but my concern is towards the innocent people who are acquiring this “Deserter” buff as a consequence of a server crashing, being kicked from a group, or disconnecting, or leaving a 1 man “party” because everyone left and you can’t get a group but you still acquire the “Deserter” buff. In turn punishing the innocent.

Stacking + account-wide deserter makes sense, that should have been implemented ages ago tbh. Would help a lot in BGs too, where deserting was originally the problem.

The reason people leave after getting an item is minmaxing time. In other words, the fix is to make it such that leaving after getting the item in most situations isn’t going to be optimal for gearing quickly.

My suggestion is to bifurcate the deserter debuff, with players who leave intentionally leave not being eligible to receive regular/heroic dungeon loot for another 8-12 hours in addition to the normal deserter debuff. They get that one piece of precious BiS, but they’re gonna have to wait to be able to get more for while.

To deal with disconnects and such, make both forms of the debuff able to be removed by your previous party members vouching for you.

Innocence acquiring it is in the minority.
It’s going to happen no matter what changes you make.

I’d rather gear it towards punishing those actively being toxic or abusive.
It could easily be made that after x amount of dungeons, it descales too.

Which is why i’m proposing a refined system that doesn’t use a broad stroke to punish everyone including the minority who are constantly overlooked, victim blamed, gas lighted, or otherwise accused of being insufficient in some capacity.

I think the debuff— while it suffices for the bare minimum, it definitely needs to be reworked in a way that allows us to avoid punishing the innocents who then get this debuff and have to wait. Especially if they are a DPS role, as that means it could be up to an hour long wait, and not everyone has an hour to throw away.

While I agree there needs to be a consequence, i’m not sure how much I agree with upscaling that consequence to the extent in which the innocence are now suffering long term punishments unjustly.

If you can not help, then at the minimum do no harm.

My primary focus isn’t punishment or even unfair treatment, but to preserve and protect the integrity of the community by focusing on those we should protect as opposed to going on a crusade to torture those who are toxic.

Your solution would still punish innocents.

What if you dc after the first or second boss and never make it to completion?
You then would miss out on loot from the first and second boss.

Which imo is even more unfair as they were there for the kills.

BoA deserter + compounding debuff increase is a way more fair of a solution, especially if you combine it with a ‘good behavior’ scale down.

Kicks are a separate but also overblown subject.

You’re talking about deserting. That ain’t a problem. It doesn’t matter. The harm is insignificantly minor.

Shard drops from each boss, with item vendor in captial.
Done.

It fixes more than a few problems at the same time btw (also adds bad luck protection).

I actually kinda like this idea.

That’s even better since it would be rng protection as well. :+1:

Time to kick low performers and confiscate loot. That player didn’t deserve a trinket. Bye.

Missing out on loot is not the same as losing an hour of your life.

You would only lose 20 minutes of your time as opposed to up to an hour plus, and if we implement more severe punishments using the deserter buff, it could be even longer and limiting on all accounts to an extreme.

While I have no love for toxic behavior, i’m not sure i’m willing to go to those extremes to punish them as I wouldn’t want to inflict that on someone who did nothing wrong and now can’t access the game, after all they did pay, and time is money.

But you also said that as a DPS you could wait to to an hour in queue. So when you DC and lose loot, do you not infact lose an hour?

One issue that I could see happening is booting someone who had been there to whole time right before the final boss so that you could bring someone else in that you wanted to have a chance at loot.

It happened back in the ZG 5 mans back in the day. It was a partial group and a couple of random solo players (me being one of the solo players). We got to the final boss and they randomly initiated a kick on the another solo player. I declined because that player had been good. They vote kicked me next and it passed. When I asked why, they said it was because they had a friend who needed loot off the final boss, which so did I. That didn’t matter though.

This issue, although annoying, will drop off substantially once other content becomes available and people aren’t trying to prefarm for the first tier of the expansion. It is unfortunate, but I don’t see this huge overhaul as necessary or useful for a problem of this type.
