Potential lore implications regarding Frost DK artifact weapons

The frost death knight artifact weapons from Legion are the Blades of the Fallen Prince, Icebringer and Frostreaper. These twin swords are forged from the remnant shards of Frostmourne at the behest of the Lich King (one of several questionable acts encouraged by Bolvar throughout Legion, and I hope that death knights get the opportunity to confront him about it at some point in Shadowlands). The quest line to acquire them has the player clearing out some souls that were somehow still strapped within the shards even after all these years, and also indicates that the newly forged blades retain at least some of Frostmourne’s soul-devouring capabilities.

So with that in mind, considering what is shown in the Afterlives: Bastion short, should we be concerned? I realize that Uther’s soul status of being fractured may be unique to him, but even knowing that it’s possible for a soul to fractured when killed with Frostmourne, what does that mean for all the souls killed with the Blades of the Fallen Prince? Also, since Frostmourne is somehow connected to the power of the Maw, should we be concerned that the Blades were used to absorb the power of Sargeras’ sword?

Bolvar straight out tells you that you’re going to trap the souls of his enemies with them.

I’m not concerned about it being a setting wide problem. Uther was the first paladin on Azeroth and the Light tried (and more importantly failed) to fully save him. That tells you a lot about how powerful Frostmourne is.

I suspect you are correct about Uther. I’m still creeped out by the idea that the Blades might have even a fraction of that capability, though. The death knight artifact weapons are all rather horrifying, and arguably the Blades are the least creepy out of the set because the Maw of the Damned and Apocalypse are just that appalling, but for now the Blades are the only ones that have a connection to the power of the Maw that we know of.

Had. I hope we reignite them (and more importantly, reforge them) for ourselves.

Being flooded with energy from Sargeras’ sword didn’t stop Xal’atath from making an appearance in BfA, and it didn’t take all that much to get her back into shape all things considered. I realize Xal’atath is a special case, but even just the blade was still powerful enough to be useful fighting N’Zoth. I doubt that the Blades are completely useless.

To be quite and frankly honest, the Maw of the Damned should’ve been completely able to consume all of the power and still be active. That was its whole thing: It couldn’t be overfilled.

Hell yeah people should be concerned when there is anything to do with Frostmourne. That’s the whole point of it. You take the Blades of the Fallen into the temple of Elune, and they are like “hey, could you maybe get the hell out of here with those things?” If it were up to me, if you had them out the Blades of the Fallen prince out, they would have instantly Aggro’d Sylvanas, and maybe even Saurfang.

BFA gave a little cameo to Xal’atath, so maybe we could see the Blades be relevant in SL.

I think it still could be active, but I wouldn’t want to handle it after it consumed that much energy, because I definitely wouldn’t trust it to not eat me (you know, even more than usual). The weapons were referred to as becoming “unstable,” and I’d say that a weapon becoming gorged on power and not responding to commands would count.
