Potential Future Game Updates

So, I stopped playing WoW just a bit after G’hun and just came back, and I just had some ideas on some potential future game updates. There are some systems currently in game I think could be looked at and improved, and some new features that could be added to make the game more fun, and potentially better.

  1. Alternate Advancement
I have been thinking about this for a while now, but constantly increasing the level cap for each expansion is kind of boring. It’s the same grind over and over again with no real change. Level to max, get gear, and try to look dope while you do it. I don’t think much can be done about that considering that’s how the game was built, I do think some things can be added to make it a bit more enjoyable. Adding in an alternate advancement system could spice things up quite a bit. You wouldn’t need to increase the level cap for each expansion, and it could make leveling meaningful again. It’s been said that leveling is just too boring. You don’t get much of anything for a good gap in levels before you get a talent or ability.
  • Path of the Titans
I know you played around with this idea during the Cataclysm expansion, but this wouldn’t be part of the glyph system. It would work something like this: At the start of the expansion you learn more about the titans. Some titans gain strength by battling each other, some gain strength through knowledge, some gain strength though protecting others, and some gain strength through supporting others. At the beginning of the expansion you pick a titan or titans that you wish to follow. Each Titan has it’s own specialty. For Instance, a titan that values knowledge would allow you to add additional effects to your spells. As you earn experience towards that titan, when you reach new levels you can choose to upgrade your spells and abilities. An arcane mage’s Slow Ability for example, may have it’s duration increase, or increase it’s slow from 50% to x%. You could choose upgrades for your characters abilities to increase your power that way, instead of just constantly getting new gear. The system could function on a tier system and could function similar to how choosing talents in Heroes of the Storm works.
  1. Professions
I haven’t been playing Classic WoW, but from the videos I’ve been seeing, and from my own experience in retail, professions in Classic WoW are actually meaningful. You can get gear to supplement your class, nothing is overpowered and all the professions compliment each other in some way. Madseasonshow on youtube has done a great series of videos explaining how well the professions compliment each other. Check them out here: WoW Classic Profession Picking Guide Part 1 and here: WoW Classic Profession Picking Guide Part 2
  • Inscription
This profession has gone through so many changes that it doesn’t even resemble it’s original view I don’t even use this profession at all and I don’t know what good it is in the general game. I had an idea on how to either change it, or add to it. Enchanting works by putting secondary stat enchants on neck and rings, and proc based enchants on weapons. At some you could put primary stats on gear, but they stopped allowing that to happen, I can’t remember the reason why. So what about inscription? I was thinking you could Inscribe runes or glyphs, whatever name you prefer, into pieces of gear that either gave primary stat or tertiary stats, leech, speed, etc., just at a low rate. nothing too crazy, maybe less than 10% for any stat, even if you put the same stat on every piece of gear. I think this would make the profession much more fun.
  1. QoL Upgrades
  • Heirlooms
Can we get a full list of heirlooms. I know you want us to do dungeons and quests to get gear, but for those of us who have all BoA’s it’s just annoying. I don’t do dungeons for gear, and most of the gear i get from quests i vendor. The only quest gear I choose is for transmog, with the exception of the pieces i need that I don’t have BoA’s for.
  • Phasing
Can we get the ability to turn this off in the options. It’s extremely irritating when going for a crafting node or quest mob to all of a sudden have them disappear because of phasing. And sometimes some of those nodes and mobs are rares, which makes it so much worse. I understand that this is an MMO and you want us to see other players, but I don’t know anyone who groups up with people anymore to do quests. All of the quests in game, except for dungeon quests, can be completed solo. Any rare or elite mob you come across and be solo’d with every class, and with shared credit you don’t need to be in a party in order to get credit for it.

That’s about all I can think of atm. What are your thoughts? If you have anything to add please or criticize please do. I’m always looking for ways to improve my thoughts and experiences

  1. Leveling - is as much a part of WoW as Azeroth is.
  • Path of the Titans - Did you skip Legion?
  1. Professions - Go play Classic WoW then form your own opinion on Classic WoW. Stop letting some random video form an opinion for you. Don’t be lazy. (You’ll also have a new opinion of Retail, and understand why many of the changes were made.)
  1. QoL Upgrades
  • Heirlooms - https://www.wowhead.com/heirloom-guide

  • Phasing - There are too many reasons to list here why phasing technology exists in Retail. Go play Classic and you’ll experience many of them. Being able to get past griefers blocking quest-givers is only one.

NO IT IS NOT!

Leveling is something everyone is forced to do to get to cap so they can play the game they paid to play.

Your statement proves my point.

Just because you personally hate leveling, doesn’t mean it’s not an integral part of the game you must participate in to get to the part you enjoy.

You paid for all of it, even the parts you hate.

Nope, I pay solely to play the parts I like DESPITE being forced through the parts I hate to get there.

You’re saying if I went to my favorite restaurant because I love the food yet find the wait staff a bit rude, their being rude is an integral part of the dining experience and it most assuredly is not.

It is if it’s a Drag restaurant.

Yes, it is, as it is a crucial aspect of all RPGs of any sort. This idea that the game begins at endgame is pernicious and ludicrous.

You’re complaining that the meal you bought and paid for at a seafood restaurant includes seafood, that seafood is not an integral aspect of a seafood restaurant.

So you have what? 1-2 years xp playing this game then all of a sudden you have IDEAS that you think Blizz will listen too?

Of course I didn’t say that.

That’s your own projection of how you chose to interpret what I did say to suit your argument, because you don’t want to face the reality of what I did say so you chose to twist it.

You pay for the entire game. We all do. I pay for Arena & BGs even though I don’t participate in them, because they’re part of the game. Just like I pay for all the channels on my Directv package even if I don’t watch them all.

You can level without questing. But you can’t get to your favorite endgame content without leveling.

This, please. Switch it to the layering system in Classic. Phasing can be so jarring. Was camping Rustfeather the other day with a massive group of people, there had to be a good 60 to 70 people and then all of a sudden all but 5 or 6 of them just vanished. You want immersion breaking, that’s it right there.
