The new patch has string changes that imply some interesting things for player names! Being able to have spaces in names will enable players to have first and last names. They are removing the line about 12 characters as the maximum limit and just says name must be shorter if it is too long. Also apostrophes in names will be nice for races like trolls, elves, etc.
Seems like what Holly Longdale mentioned in the past as having things in store for roleplayers.
CHAR_NAME_CONSECUTIVE_SPACES (New) - Names can’t have consecutive spaces
CHAR_NAME_INVALID_APOSTROPHE - Names Can’t use an apostrophe as the first or last character of your name
CHAR_NAME_INVALID_SPACE - Names Can’t use a space as the first or last character of your name
CHAR_NAME_MULTIPLE_APOSTROPHES - Names may only use one apostrophe
CHAR_NAME_TOO_LONG - Names can’t be more than 12 characters Name must be shorter
Oof this would painful. I’m also hoping that the length of acceptable name input won’t be super short. Some of my elves easily have 12+ characters with first and last name combined.
I haven’t really seen it mentioned anywhere else, which makes me question how valid it really is. Surely wowhead or some other big datamine news site would’ve said something…right?
Yeah… However if it’s true, is a really cash smart move of them.
Even if they offer a free name change in the light of that feature, I can’t even grasp the number of people buying name changes to either a) Adjust the variation to the actual name b) Add in an apostrophe where their name should have one c) Finally making that “cool name that was taken”
