So, there are some who (like me) are trying to figure out what the next class is going to be and/or when it will be released. I maintain it will be Bard in Midnight, but I’ve been considering Artificer because I hear it brought up a lot in this type of discussion. And, admittedly, it would be a fun concept. Throwing together bots of the fly during battle. Maybe summoning a big boy to help. But, there is one pretty glaring issue everyone who brings it up keeps forgetting…
Blizzard cannot do player controlled mounted combat correctly. And an Artificer class would need AT LEAST 1 spec that’s piloting a Mechsuit to sell the class fantasy (looking at you MM Huntards complaining about upcoming changes). So, assuming Artificer is genuinely on the table, a DPS spec around summoning/crafting bots during combat to fight for you, a spec to summon/build bots to support the group and a spec piloting a Mechsuit to perhaps fill a tank roll. But, is that Mechsuit going to be a permanent part of your character? Once you take that spec your character is ALWAYS in that suit to remove the need for mounted combat? Or do we let this suit wearing spec use all the new Mechsuits plus the Sky Golem as choices for Piloted Mechsuit during combat. And then, how does that NOT end up being one of the most convoluted specs to play in the entire game?
I would genuinely love for someone to explain how to get around this, because other than Bard I do believe in Artificer as a class. They are both traditional RPG classes that the game has been lacking. As always, thanks ahead of time to anyone that offers a respectful response that offers clarity friends
Since engineering captures the steampunk theme, a potential tech class should explore other themes not covered by engineering. Like the crystal tech of draenei or the arcane constructs of blood elves.
No adding redundancies when unexplored themes remain. Artificers would be a great way to explore those themes.
Engineering isn’t a class. That is saying black smiths are warriors because they use armor and swords.
Also tinker should be for the race the class is for. A tinker Dreanai would use crystals. A blood elf use whatever they use. Goblins, dwarves and gnomes will use more industrial version.
Blizz probably isn’t going to be introducing any new classes during the Worldsoul Saga. Hero Talents are easily setup to carry on until 100, Midnight 81-90 and the Last Titan 91-100.
On top of expanding Hero Talents for the two expansions, each expansion has one big feature and Midnight’s will be Player Housing. I wouldn’t expect anything else new and exciting beyond that.
Crystal tech has been explored if you play dreanei and do their questline and heritage quests, that and the lightforged. You even meet a tinker of theirs.
But tinkers should be race specific. And artificers are just tinkers. A goblin tinker will be using their tech. A dreanei tinker will be using their crystals.
Also, there are a lot of themes in the game that has been covered but we have multiple classes with them. How much has the shadow and void been explored and we have about three classes that uses the shadow
Two classes that follow fel and three that plays with souls.
Steampunk theme has not been explored much outside of profession and hunter class and that is barely for the latter
Artificer implies draenei technology the same way Tinker implies gnome/goblin technology.
Ideally any tech class would allow for different tech styles through customization similar to druid forms. What good is a tech class if you can’t customize your own technology after all?
How about we just make an artificer profession instead of wanting every profession to be a class?
'Bout to have people arguing for a cooking class that fights with rolling pins and throws hot biscuits at the enemy for dmg. Main AoE ability is a grease fire.
I forgot everything but MW monk so I can’t really hold it against them.
Yes. I want to add a tinfoil armor type. One class only and all it does is confuse the raid by making all of their abilities accelerate the introduction of a New World Order.
As a hero talent, it would go hard. Magitech class. Be like Star-Lord in the comics and game where his elemental guns are magitech. Also DNA encoded only he could use, and depending on the universe, it morphs.
