Posting on low level alts to avoid 'punishment'

So I recently found out that if you are reported for posting things against the forums TOS that it will only block you from creating posts or replying on that specific avatar

Leading these type of people to use low level alts to post on, so if they do get blocked, they can still post on their mains when they know they are posting ‘safe’ things.

Normally I wouldn’t bother making a thread about this, whenever I see a low level alt post a personal attack or racist comment or whatever, I just shrug it off.

But it got me thinking, why does blizzard allow this? Why doesn’t blizzard make the blocking account wide instead of to the specific avatar? I’m sure they are fully aware that people are using low level alts to avoid getting blocked by posting against the TOS, making unnecessary racist, sexist, personal attacks.

If they really want to make their forums a good, safe place for anyone of any age group to come and talk about their games and enjoy their time, they could really put in more effort haha.

Now, to anyone who replies to this and says something about “your post is against free speech…”

There are plenty of other places you could go forum wise if you can’t discuss a topic in a mature and civil manner without attacking other people. If you can’t create a reply to someone without trying to belittle them in some way or another, then that speaks volumes about you and your own insecurities.

As someone that is frequently suspended, I can assure you if you troll on a low level alt, your whole account gets suspended from the forums.

That’s why I have backup accounts to post on.

Fenny is correct. And I’d like to add that gnomes should not get suspended because they are too cute for that.

People didn’t agree with you about the Maw and you got angry in that thread and now you’ve gotten to this level?
Are you okay man?

I hope that is the case, but it’s kind of hard to believe.

Why are there so many people posting racist, sexist and in general personally attacking people from low level alts? Do they do this just to hide from the people they are attacking before they get blocked?

Also, does blizzard allow people to post from free accounts? I can’t see people buying the base game over and over again just to troll the forums, that would be a very good way to waste money.

I can confirm the whole account is blocked from posting.

When they first switched to the current forum software it treated each character as its own account so you could just switch characters, but they fixed that ages ago.

I get that fuzzy feeling every time I get the message; you have gone up a level in trust.

At the same time I get a sinking feeling of dread; that I did something wrong. This happens when a green called me a Troll.

Well I was on my Troll…

In the old days, it was rumored that some guilds didn’t like when members even ‘participated’ in general or trade chat in-game.

That’s not true. I’ve been suspended for things I posted on an alt.

The “base game” used to go on sale for $5 during Blizzard sales. But you do need to be subbed to post, unlike platforms like Reddit.

So if it is confirmed that you get blocked account wide, the trolls must simply do it to hide until they get blocked, that’s good to know.

So my questions would be:

Are you required to buy the base game, or have a sub currently active to post in the forums? Or can you just create accounts over and over again, free ones, and keep posting?

And!

Are you able to block/ignore people on the forums? That seems to be a pretty obvious option to have, I mean it’s built into pretty much every game I’ve played. Yet somehow, I don’t see the option on the forums.

You need an active sub to post in General Discussion, but you don’t need to buy the game.

You can ignore people, it’s just a bit hidden.

You have to click on somebody’s name to bring up their profile, then at the top right on that screen there should be a button that says “Normal”. Click on that and it bring up a dropdown menu where you can either mute(no notifications) or ignore(no notification and can’t see their posts) that person.

Surprised you have not figured it out as it is very common across all forms of social media. Now the out right hateful stuff is uncalled for, but Trolling, arguing for the sake of argument and all manner of annoying is now base line social media.

Personally I think it has become it’s own form of communication. I think that Blizzard and all other hosts of social media should just let these thing be. Clearly rules don’t stop it.

Dang thats pretty crazy. I honestly can’t image subbing a second or third account just to troll people after being blocked on your first account.

That seems like such a waste of time and money…

So one question still remains then, is there no option to just ignore people?

Click photo left side icon.
Set to ignore till… Gives option on length of time…

This is part of trust level 1+ to ignore for a month max.

they don’t ‘allow’ this - if you get a suspension on one character it is applied to all your characters on that account.

you should be aware if they catch you posting on those others accounts when you are suspended, they WILL permanently ban you from posting forever…

Circumventing a Suspension / Ban

This category includes:

  • Posting on another account
  • Having someone post on your behalf

If a player is found to have participated in such actions, they will:

  • Be permanently banned from posting on the forums

actually they promise you will be banned - no maybes about it

You have back up accounts to just post on the WoW forums?

No, I have other accounts for other reasons.

I don’t do it myself but I assume most people have other accounts for other reasons, and they just happen to use it on the forums from time to time.
