According to the forums, WoW has been dying since 2004. Where have you been?
You really putting those Highschool drama classes to work huh?
It’s already in decline, and has been.
People want this game to be good, but they come back, and realize it’s an entirely different game, and a shadow of what the genre is supposed to be, and go to other games, or become bitter and start pointing out the competition is catching up, and is actually doing things right.
No game is going to remain at the top forever, the games in the mainstream now aren’t the same as they were 10 or 20 years ago, but loyal fans do remain - I still play gen 1/2 Pokemon competitively, attend retro arcade events, ect ect.
It’s just concerning when it’s those long-term die hards that are the ones complaining or leaving. And for what? To chase e-sports? Time played metrics that were being fulfilled by alts and optional side features?
Alas.
Big corporate took over, saw the trends, and decided they could apply to a genre that’s evolved - and not in that direction, and they refuse to follow.
No King reigns forever my son.
Did you just take your intro to writing class?
This is a solid B effort.
If WoW is dying, might I suggest the following song be played at it’s funeral?
The word you’re looking for is and, not an.
It’s been around for sixteen and a half years. It’s outlived anyone’s expectations and then some.
They’re sill constantly making new content and I have four accounts. Declining or not, it’ll still be around for a very long time. I have fun still, that’s all I care about.
Blizzard was in deep **** as soon as their merger with Activision was announced. Its been a decline ever since and will never change.
Dreamhaven founded by mike morhaime is starting to develop now so hopefully we can have some decent games from their studio.
Only when they lose all of their fans will they realize their mistakes. That we are fans, not costumers. And our desires should be respected, not abused.
By that time they realize this, it will be too late to recover. So unfortunately Blizz will never be the same again. Most of the employees already know this and are jumping ship in record numbers.
To summarize Blizzard’s current state in entirety:
Don’t you guys have phones!?
Twelve years is quite the death rattle.
It’ll be another 12 before they put anything out lol
The Twilight's Hammer clan is LFM Doomsayers!
Remember: Cho'gall will have your heads! ALL OF THEM!I didn’t say it was dead. I said it is declining which is entirely accurate. Content releases are at an all time low, as are subscriptions.
Which has literally been the trend for that time frame.
They are losing all of their talent and their public image is also horrible. Or do you not care that they lay off hundreds of employees while giving hundreds of millions in bonuses to the ceo?
Assuming that whatever they are making doesn’t get canceled because it was “made with the love for gaming” instead of including the parts that actually pay the bills
yawn
I’ve been seeing your “sky is falling” posts for the entire 16.5 years that I’ve played this game.
You have nothing new to say.
Well you clearly dont have anything to add other than blind fanboyism.
The only thing blizzard has going for it is the revenue from their cash shops.
They will never not die 100%, they will just bleed and bleed until there isn’t much left but you and 1000 other fanboy holdouts.
Funny how easily 95% of content creators feel the same way as I do. Even their sub numbers are down.
This is where you went wrong. You made an ordinary game into a life altering entity so of course you are going to over dramatize the rest of its shelf life. You should see someone because its obviously become too much for you.
There is a significant difference between a decline and a death rattle. They stated it was in a decline which is objectively true.
I would say if anything the death rattle will happen when the game eventually dies as everything is destined to from the moment of creation and people are still stuck on the same expansion until they inevitably pull the plug and more private servers crop up. WoW technically has been dying since 2004, just a newborn child is dying from the moment they are born. However, WoW has grown old, frail, and doesn’t even remember their life, saying it is on the verge of death is a severe understatement just because this current model is not sustainable in the slightest.
Even their diehard fans are getting sick of it, the content creators who they rely on to astroturf the game’s faults and make them not noticeable because “content creator 654 says the game is good and I should play!” and have relied on to cover their asses since 2014 are beginning to get their pitchforks out.
However the content creators all dance to one tune. If Blizzard is releasing a new expansion, of course they’ll endlessly hype up the game. Asmongold was complaining about Legion but worshipped BFA before it hit shelves from beta, and did the same with Shadowlands which he now hates. When there’s hype, they’ll stoke the hype and rake in. Then when the hype wears off they’ll go back to aggression mode and reap the views from pandering to the jaded WoW fans just wanting to be heard.
To be honest, I think they’re screwed in 1-2 more expansions. I do not think they have another Legion up their sleeve which is to say an “okay” expansion at the very worst once all the problems are fixed. Shadowlands was totally not going to be another BFA, they learned. . . damn it it’s another BFA. They got us again boys!
It’s a 16 year old video game, it was around during dial-up. Dial-up! Do some of you honestly believe it could have continued to push BC or Wrath numbers?
I believe so considering classic wow was a big success.
